LOL
twitter is for twits.
The Burger King social media team is likely having an unpleasant holiday afternoon, as not only was the brands twitter feed hacked, but it started posting as rival McDonalds.
The first questionable tweet came at around noon Monday with the feed changing its name to McDonalds and saying that Burger King had been sold. Although the initial tweet seemed fairly straight, the hackers seemed unable to sustain the buttoned-up style of a corporate twitter feed and quickly devolved into a conversational style closer to that of a bragging teenager.
After an hour, the hacked feed is still online, and still publishing updates, now mostly seeming to laud the rogue internet video channel Worldstar Hiphop, and implying that the hacker was a group or person called ITHUG.
Worldstar is know for its heavily watermarked viral videos showing people doing stupid and/or illegal things. For example in Toronto Worldstar was behind the release of a video of two people having sex at a TTC station and a brutal fight in front of a Yonge street Burger King.
Part of the reason the feed may still be up after an hour could do with the fact that it is Presidents Day in the United States (its Family Day across most of Canada right now). The person in charge of the feed may not even be aware of the fact that its hacked yet. UPDATE: The feed has been taken down.
Burger King Worldwide Inc., which is based in Miami, did not immediately respond to a message seeking comment.
The real McDonalds was quick to assure everyone that they had nothing to do with the hacking.
