I started reading through this although I do not have any Barbie box. I actually have This Enlight barebone box, which is very similar to Barbie.

Anyway, Intel I810 chipset supports 100Mhz bus. The problem with the older version with PPGA is that no 100Mhz PPGA CPUs have been made. Hence, all the PPGA version of I810 boards do not list 100Mhz as suuprted bus speed. However, they should be able to set at 100Mhz if the CPU sent the right signal to the chipset.

Of course, if the BIOS somehow had the 100Mhz setting disabled, this would not work, but often, basic BIOS features like this are set pretty generically throughout most boards.

I have built a system using slot 1 based I810 based motherboard which came out when all the Celerons were still PPGA. The board does run FCPGA PIII on 100Mhz bus using slocket.

I could totally be wrong as this may not apply to this specific motherboard, but be optimistic.

fxsts;
you may be right. I didn't play with the bios to try to see if I can enable 100 fsb. However, I did stick in the powerleap (this has multiple setting on it one is defult which is the processor fsb, and the others are force fsb 100 133 and so on) I left it at the defult settings on the powerleap. What I got was that the mobo forced the processor to run at 66fsb. On my wifes tekram mobo which is 810 ppga (not compatable with flippy) sticking the PIII with powerleap forces the mobo to 100fsb since the PIII is 100fsb. This burbie did not. maybe it can be done not sure, but since I already have a 533 ppga celery I didn't bother.

I have had my "Burbie" for about 1 1/2 months and have been happy with it.
So mich that I recommended it to my BIL and just put one together for him.

The problem is that sometimes my mouse and keyboard all of a sudden freeze. The only way I can get them workin again is to disconnect and reconnect them or reboot the computer. This is on both computers. (mine and his) Mine never did this until recently and his began from the start. :disgust:

Anyone else have this problem?
Anyone know how to correct?

Can anyone recommend an HSF that they have used for this system. Does the MB have the fan header? Just want to be sure I don't get something that is not going to fit.

Thanks

I suppose that's true either if I buy from Directron or that other one that I can't remember. Anyway, thanks for the info. YEA, now I'm gonna build one for my GF's niece.

Just wanted to post my experience for the masses....

Worked fine when I initially assembled it... I loaded win98... Wrapped it up for Xmas.

Xmas morning... randomly wouldnt power on.. wouldnt boot completely when it did. (I blamed it on Santa's terrible sleigh driving...)

After reading here I replaced the CMOS batt. Runs like a champ now!!

SO... dont lose hope ppl... if its not working swap out the CMOS battery.

I didn't get a HSF! Can someone tell me what type I would need. Just don't want to get one that'll be too tall as I can see it's a very tight space. Picture would be helpful.

thanks

It is not so much the hight of the HSF as it is the clip interfering with the memory which is angled towards the HSF. Look at your board after you install the memory.

I notice that on Directron page it mentioned a cpu fan. I bought mine from package2you.com. Did anyone else get an HSF from Package2you?

Yea, I just saw the post about the pad too.. I think it's like $9 shipped.

I ordered two gamepads for $6 plus $5 shipping so $11 delivered price. Also I have ordered 2 barebones from packages2you and both came with a heatsink/fan.

GamePads are not USB so you need an adapter for burbie:(

Got mine from packages2you and no HSF. Waiting on a retail celeron with HSF, hope it fits. Not much room to play around with clearance once the RAM is installed, replaced the CMOS battery before installing the RAM.

Once I get the CPU is is time to boot and install an OS, couldn't find my copy of 98SE so my choices are '95, 98, or 2Kpro with SP1. Any suggestions?

Well I emailed package2you.com last night and they responded very quickly. It seems that they have ran out of the HSF be Dec. They have taken that part of it out of the description. O well, guess I'll stop by my local mom&pop store to pick up one. Seeing that there are already 2 fans hear the cpu, don't think I'll need anything big. But would someone put their fan in a blow or exhaust configuration? I figure exhaust is best since there's the powersupply fan blowing and an exhaust fan their. Just curious what's the best way to keep it cool.

I would think exhaust. With such a small case and the inlet at the bottom of the front, I'm going to set it up that way. I don't think you could overheat this thing if you wanted to. Not enough internal expansion available and even the cheapest CPU fan should be enough for that celly.

Bliasburn, how much was the shipping from directron. I was afraid that they'll force you to chose their 2day fedex shipping. Since this is a barebone with everything not installed, I wonder if it falls into their new policy of shipping systems.

Another question, are the mouse everyone's getting sanded like the keyboard and case or does it still have the flower on it. Mine looks intact with the flower design still on it. I suppose since it does not say "Barbie" on it they left it alone... Just curious

Yet another question, what paint are you guys using.

My burbie arrived today from Packages2You. It came bundled with an extra keyboard. One was installed in the case and one was in a mylar bag. Has this happened to anyone else?

I think he meant a MOTHERBOARD. Guess they never took out all of them. Don't think the KB will fit in the case.

My mouse & keyboard both have sanded spots. I decided to paint my case Krylon Victorian Blue (a glossy light blue). I also have some Krylon Grape (glossy light purple) that I'm going to paint the cdrom door, floppy door & the keyboard case. I think my kid will like it better than the silver. I tried using some cheap ass silver dutch boy paint from Kmart and it dripped all over the case so I had to spend a couple days sanding that crap off. It's still a little rough but no so bad. When I'm finished I'll post a pic.

Mouse & keyboard both sanded.

Shot it with "America's Finest" byr Rust-Oleum Aluminum HD2815. $1.99 a can and since I am giving this to my mother-in-law I am not too excited about how it looks. The suggested Testors paint was $4 for an itty bitty can.

Color is a bit off, but she can live with it. Looks awful when you first paint it, but let it dry and it gets really close. Your are going to notice the sanding marks more than the color match anyway. Again, this is an el-cheapo machine, if I spent the time sanding etc. I am sure it could looke much better.
