Bungie Please Remake Myth

Anyone remember Myth: The Fallen Lords and Myth 2: Soulblighter?

Damned good tactical RTS games. With today's graphics and physics engines I think an update would be awesome. Myth really put the emphasis on strategy and was fun wasting each other's armies. These days, all Bungie is doing is Halo. WTF happened to Myth and Marathon? Why no love?

well Reach is their last Halo game and they are moving on to other "internally developed IP" so you might get some love, or not nobody knows really.

Halo is king and always will be, just like Infinity Ward is to CoD.

Not nearly the same as Bungie is no longer making Halo games after Halo:Reach.

Myth doesn't end in alo so it's a no go.

Or look up and read my post. Reach is the last Halo game made by Bungie. MS holds the rights to Halo and 989Studios is handling future Halo products.

Bungie bought themselves back from MS's game publishing branch specifically because they wanted to make other games than just Halo.

Soulless were so fun to use.

"Uh oh, your zerkers are gonna catch me! Uh oh, they're getting closer! AHAHA SUCKA, chase me up a cliff if you can!"

Bungie doesn't own the rights to myth anymore, so this will never happen sadly. It's too bad too, the Myth games were pretty fantastic overall, they had one of my favorite ranking systems online and the single player had a great story and really good storytelling. I've even broke out Myth 1 and 2 and even the 3rd one and played them with the community patches in Win7. AFAIK people still play on marius.net actually, although I haven't in a few years.

Myth was awesome, however archers were overpowering.

Yes, the 3 Myth games were in my top 10 list of games and are still hold up today. Still remember when the first time I had one of the bloated dudes (forgot what u call them) blow up on me. It was total shock and my of my favorite gaming moments EVER. One day they might redo it, who knows?

I made a post about this game a few months ago, It was the first rts game i played that didn't have resource management in the sense of gold/buildings.

This game would be amazing with today's graphics. I bet the game would make a great movie as well.

Well Bungie is now under the umbrella that is Activision who also own Blizzard who also made SC2 which also had undesirable "limitations" so yea if it did happen, you probably won't be too happy about the end product. :ninja:

Its a very different situation. Blizzard and Activision are 1 corporate entity, Bungie is not owned by Activision in any way, Activision is just the publisher, they do not own Bungie.

they're their own company now. They no longer own HALO rights or Myth/Marathon rights.

It'd definitely be interesting to see them develop a new RTS IP. I'd be interested to see where they take it.

<3 for this idea. Myth 2 - freakin awesome atmosphere, great game. Also, best narration ever. I even restarted it in Legendary and played the first few missions. Huge numbers of thrall in the 1st mission, man. Needed to make those dwarves work hard to get through it alive!

For anyone interested the community patches give you high resolution options, I've been playing myth at 1920x1200 and it looks pretty decent still and is still loads of fun. Ill never get over theguy who says "casualties", always cracks me up how he says it with a complete lack of emotion.

I totally forgot about this game, bring me back. I remember being floored the first time I saw it. All of the gore! The story was amazing also.

I'm gonna have to go look for my CD's. I pulled out the original a few years back but had issues getting it to work at the time (the community patches were not well tested at that point). I never really got into the second or third ones as much as the original, as some of the additions really were not well balanced. But that first one was almost perfectly balanced between the units and point costs in multi-player. It was a great game. I still remember one of the tournaments I was involved in on the Desert Trow map and the other team screaming "HACKS!!! CHEATS!!!!", when all of their zerks blew up when they attempted to cross the river at one of the shallows which looked like it was only guarded by one fetch (the guys that could shoot lightning). What they didn't know was that we placed satchel charges under the water.... Zap.. BOOM!!!!!

That game had so many great mechanics, with some units being able to pickup/throw items, with the game engine physics working on just about everything, taking damage from high moving objects, etc., there were just so many things that you could combine and do. Like bouncing lightning off the water to increase range, throwing a molotov into the air and then shooting lightning under it timing it just right for the lighning blast to push/bounce the molotov farther, and so on. It made it so that your imagination was the limit, not the game engine's design of these two units can do X together, but not Y.

3 player (or any multi beyond 2 players) was a shame in myth though. I would do 3 player all the time and all of us would try to hide and watch the other 2 fight it out.

But the single player? Myth is one of my favorite games of all time for a reason. Such a powerful game.

BTW, my roomate in college at the time saved a replay of the last level. I am going to assume i'm not spoiling this for anybody but here's a warning anyway. SPOILER

In the last level in Myth I, when you have to throw the evil dudes head in a cliff, my roomate was down to one dwarf with no other units. THe dwarf was, of course, carrying the head. The dwarf tossed in the head just as soulblighty killed him. That was such an intense moment.

I later learned that journeymen could injure soulblighty by healing him.
