There is no hard and fast rule. How we respond is based on moderator discretion, derived from common sense, our best interpretation of the situation, and applied logic (see Newbian's answer below).

Well one is almost a year old bump and the other is for the most part active.

You know why it was locked 😉

No need for a winkie. There is no legitimate reason for either thread to be locked otherwise posts that old would be automatically archived and not able to be bumped. The only reason the Iran thread was locked was obvious. Hell, even another Senior Moderator partook of the discussion after the bumpage - he apparently didn't have a problem with it. There is no sense in complaining about it though, to the contrary I feel satisfied that this is rather typical behavior for those of that political bent when the facts and discussion don't turn out as they planned. It exposes them for who they are. The next time you know who calls you out as a shitty American who hates the constitution, just remember that locked thread and smile.

What are you talking about? There was no discussion, of the thirteen posts that were made a YEAR after the last one only Common Courtesy had anything remotely close to a discussion, the rest were the bump and people complaining about the bump. It was a bump, nothing was added to the thread by the person bumping it up and nothing was added to it since then. If you want to discuss this then start a new thread with some kind of substance in the OP.

This.

I knew locking it and not PJ's would bring out the whiny conspirators . Both were bumped to demonstrate what idiots the OP's were and if PJ hadn't of posted in his after the bump I would have locked it myself but since he did and it stayed on topic I really couldn't justify locking it. The same couldn't be said about jpeyton's and after discussing it with the mod who locked it I came to the conclusion that while unpopular with a small segment of the usual suspects who see bias in every little thing it was the right action to take.
