Bumping etiquette

I know the rule in FS/FT is that you may only bump your thread every 4 hours. What about other forums? Many forums, such as GH don't have as much traffic as FS/FTT, HD, or OT, but many people bump their threads about getting help as little as half an hour! While I understand wanting to get help faster, it only pushes down the threads of other people and looks selfish.

I've been known to bump my threads once a day for the more popular forums, or after they've dropped off the first page (for the forums visited less). This is just what I feel is fair. Does anyone else have an opinion on this? Recommendations on bumping periods?

Personally, I don't think it's reasonable to bump unless it's off the first page, and usually then only if it's a decent question that that hasn't gone answered for a day. Why push other people down unneccessarily? Course, FS/FT is diff. I'm talking here of tech help.

WOW, 4 hours? I thought it was like 12 hours. Which reminds me....I have some bumping to do.

For serious, I only bump threads that I need an answer to in a quick hurry, but I mean, the Hardware and OS forums, you can have your post off the first page in minutes. It gets busy in there sometimes.....
