Got hit by something small today on the highway. It's very shallow but there are two or three very small veins coming out from the impact spot.
Was going to try one of those repair kits with the clear resin to see how it works.

Any experience with those or specific kits?

They work well if there is a hole for the resin to get into. I had a crack that I couldn't quite get fixed myself - even tried drilling a small hole. Ended up taking it to the car wash where they had a repair guy - he said I just didn't drill down deep enough. If you have a dremel, it'd be worth a shot at drilling a hole at the center of impact (into the windshield, not through it so it comes out the other side) and doing the resin.

If you'd rather not mess with it yourself, most car wash joints have a guy for about $35-$50 to fix it, some covered 100% under insurance depending on what yours will cover.

I have used the kit, and it seemed to stop the cracks from expanding, but alas, I didn't pass the state inspection later that year. Thankfully, in my state, regardless of your insurance deductible the most you pay is $100.
One of the things I liked about California was a strictly enforced covered load law. Here on the east coast, not so much, I have replaced my windshield 4 times in 10 years.

For $10 I'm going to give the kit a shot. Watched a few videos showing the results and in many cases it seems to do a decent job and at least keep it from getting worse.

Had safelite done on such a chip in CA a couple years ago and it was completely free from my insurance. It has held up well with no growing for 3 years now.

Completely forgot to update it. I put clear packing tape on the impact spot for a few days to keep it from expanding prior to getting the repair kit. When I removed the tape the loose pieces came out as well which helped with the repair.

Got the kit from Amazon for around $11. Application was simple and straightforward. Took about 30 minutes total with reading the instructions a few times, set up, dry time, etc. Came out very well. There's a slight cloudy area where the impact was but it's much, much better and completely smooth.
