Good quick overview of the game's performance. The game is almost entirely GPU dependent, with large changes in CPU mhz speeds showing very little changes in the game's frame rate with a gtx580.

Interestingly, the gtx580 and gtx570 spank the competition but gtx560ti can't outperform an hd6870. This goes with what I've been feeling since all the major high end cards have been out, for me the gtx570 hits the sweet spot between price and performance for high end cards. Generally as fast as an hd6970 while being cheaper, and easily overclocks to 580 speeds.

Runs at a solid 60fps with vsync at 1920x1080 and all options max, minus AA and AF on a 5870. The only slowdowns I get are during level streaming, which seems to happen a lot.

I don't see why it wouldn't run great on most hardware - the textures are pretty low res, the levels are small and I've not seen more than ~10 enemies on screen, though I'm only half way through act 1 so it may change.

Spank? Im not so sure, the 570 is ahead of the 6970 by a small margin, basically neck and neck minimums and the 580 is where it always is. Head and shoulders above anything else. The 5870 is most impressive for me right on the heals of the 6970/480/570.

I still think the $10-20 premium on the 6970 is justified as it really shines at high resolutions and has bucket loads of memory.

Does this game only one core or what?

It's 50$ more then the gtx570 last I checked.

Edit: no more coupon code nvm. It was 50$ less yesterday. Thegtx570 seems to fall below 300$ just about once a week lately.

Yeah, I'm sure you would get some pretty good weekly deals on a 6970 too if you looked.

Everywhere else the 6970 and the 570 are the same price. Over here the 6970 is actually a little cheaper.

Right now at newegg HD 6970s & GTX 570s are around the same price on the low to mid models.

I haven't tried Bullet Storm on my PC yet. My HD 6970 has handled everything flawlessly for me so far. It was cheaper than the GTX 570 when I purchased my card. I purchased early as I was affraid of the price hikes we got last time. Thats a big difference.

Good rule of thumb is to always go for the nVidia card unless you like dealing with drivers that every once in a while screw up your performance.

I had no problems with AMD drivers in the 2 years I have been using them. I think I won't follow your rule of thumb and just buy whatever gives the most performance at my price range.

Lowest prices now seem to be 310-315 for both, and 340 without rebate for a MSI HD and a PNY GTX.
