BulletProof FTP Server & Belkin 4-port Gateway Router

Im trying to use Bulletproof ftp server... YES, i opend port 21 and 20 for UL's AND DL's. Still when i connect all i get is my internal IP nothing to the outside. I cant figure out how to get to the outside so others can connect to my FTP Server. Please help.

I use a different router and FTP server (Linksys router and Serv-U Pro FTP) but I think this should apply to your situation as well. Your router should have a "Port Forwarding" feature that you need to configure to forward all traffic on ports 20/21 to the computer that is running the server, whatever the internal IP address is.. (192.168.1.3, etc..) or whatever.

And obviously you need to allow that same traffic through your firewall, but it sounds like you've got that part figured out.

I opened up those ports.... But when i hit the "online" button on bulletproof and all and all it displays is my internal IP. Pre-router days it had my internal just before my External IP. This belkin has been a pain in my rectum. It also disconnects me randomly.

I had very bad luck with a belkin router also, and finally gave up on it after a few months.

some routers come with presets for popular file sharing. when i got my router, it had preconfigured ports server ports / apps - FTP, HTTP, DNS, SMTP, POP3, Telnet .. etc .. maybe there's such a preset in your router.

I got a linksys Router 4 Port. I use BPFTP all the time and to get it working since you and I have routers we have the NAT Firewall which is built in and cannot be turned off. A router is basically just a NAT Box, to get around this go to your BPFTP program and go to general options go to firewall and set it to passive. That's it. If this doesn't work then it might be your ports, but most likely if you got the NAT firewall you will have to set it to passive. Hope this helped.

I had a Linksys router that I absolutely hated.

routers suck... Belkin is like "whats bulletproof? do you live in the ghetto or somthing?"

I had to RMA my Belkin router. It was a v1.0. The sent a new one that seems much better.

I prefer my Linky router though.

Try setting the server in the DMZ and see if that solves it. If not, its something funky. If it works, try to set port forwarding, etc.

ViciouS: I have the exact same problem with you. BulletProof + DLink router = no go on internet but works in LAN. I've done the same thing as you have, opened port 20, 21.

I have tried using FTP from IIS5 and that works perfectly with the same router. Maybe BulletProof have some problems with particular routers?!

I'm using Bulletproof behind a router and can get it to work just fine.... it's probably just a setting. Bulletproof's online help got me going. Have you gone through all that and then tried?

If I remember correctly, Bulletproof will only show your internal LAN IP, and not your Internet IP. There was a diagram that showed why this was on their website. I also had to use a DNS app since I have a dynamic IP.
