Bulldozer starting to show up in retail channels

Bundles make me wish I had waited before paying retail for my Sabertooth. Oh well, it served me well these past couple of months. SLI is nice.

Typically "tray" means it is an OEM CPU with no retail packaging. I find it quite odd though the OEM version is $180 vs $120 for the box version lol. I'm guessing their distributor just hasn't updated all pricing yet in the database.

This says a few interesting things. At Newegg, an i7-2600 is $299 while an i5-2500 is $219. Assuming equivalent pricing, AMD thinks the 8120 is slightly better than the i5-2500, and the 8150 is almost as good as the i7-2600.

We'll see if its justified when the benchmarks arrive.

Six fpu's and 12 integer units c'mon AMD WHERE IS IT!?!?!?!?!?

Think about how big that CPU would be...

BD is looking to be a DECENT consumer CPU. Given it's size, it better rock the server world. I still think BD might be an effective weapon against those high thread Atom and ARM boxes the fringe are peddling... We'll see.

Looks a little overpriced, but I think the pricing is interesting.

The FX-4100 @ 3.6ghz is $177 on Provantage.

So just going by the pricing we have:

PII X6 1090T @ 3.2GHz -- $179
FX-4100 @ 3.6ghz -- $177
PII X4 980 @ 3.7ghz -- $173
PII X4 975 @ 3.6ghz -- $162
PII X6 1055T @ 2.8ghz -- $160

According to http://www.cpu-world.com/CPUs/Bulldozer/AMD-FX-Series FX-4100.html (I have no idea how reliable that is) max-turbo is 3.8ghz.

It is worth pointing out the FX-4100 is the only CPU on that list with a 95W TDP, at least according to Provantage. Also, it is OEM and all the other prices are retail. Still, unless AMD is not pricing relative to their previous-gen products (possible, since imho most of them are overpriced atm[!]) it doesn't look great...

Tigerdirect has AMD FX-8158 X8 3600MHZ 16MB 125W AM3+ for $259.99 US and $311.99 Cdn.

I think 8158 is a typo, should be 8150.

I know 🙁, really hate the way AMD is selling integer units as " cores ", the lying sons of b tch's. As long as they plan on competing with the SB-E six core part with an actual six core part I'll be happy.

If not, I = 😡

You are expecting that 6C FX 6100 that will cost 190-200$ should compete with 6C SB-E models that will cost 500+$ ? You need a reality check asap.
Maybe FX 8150 can challenge SB-E in some select workloads, but expecting a ~300$ chip to outperform a 500-1k$ chip is not realistic at all.
FX will have great OCing headroom and will be great price/performance offering. Many will be opting for it.BUT it won't be THE top dog chip, not on stock clocks.

No. The 6100 is a tri-core, I'm talkin two 6100's in one package.

No it's not a tri core. Stop posting nonsense, you are just confusing people here. Fx 6xxx is 3 module 6 core chip. It has 6 integer cores and 6 dedicated FPUs (called FMACs) that are grouped in pairs in so called FlexFP coprocessors. Each FlexFP supports 2 threads of execution via 2 128bit FMACs. Each of these FMACs should in real workloads be as strong as one Thuban core (or one Thuban's FPU unit inside its core),or close to its throughput.
You need to read up more.

BD231 said tri core and I corrected him.

BD has just as many effective 128-bit FPUs as Phenom II. The module thing lets 2 "cores" combine their FPUs just in case 1 "core" needs more FPU than the other. Some call it a 256-bit FPU but really, it's a pair of 128-bit FPUs put together.

I fully expect BD to have more IPC than the Phenom II. AMD really needs to up their IPC game and if they can't get an IPC boost out of BD then they're really, really in trouble.

Thanks for the clarification.
