This looks to be an extreme (LN2) overclocking contest.....
During this event we will be debuting OCN's new Marksman CPU pot, System Interrogator, and of course AMD's new Bulldozer CPUs.
Anyone wondering what that pot looks like, you can find them here...

Hmm, BD NDA lift at the end of next week perhaps? Seems quite early to be posting this competition if launch was mid October. Then again we haven't heard of BD shipping and it takes about 2 weeks to get product to distributors. Although, that pre-order pricing came out right about when BD would have to be shipping to do Thu-Fri next week launch. Where is Sherlock Holmes or one of those Deathnote characters when you need them?

That's correct, AMD has not announced any shipping dates nor any launch dates so far. Usually shipping dates should be announced first. If you hadn't the foggiest idea, I have been trying to push JFAMD to "show me the money". :D

Hey, what exactly is that supposed to mean? :sneaky:

I think this is my general overview of performance: a lot lower single-threaded, comparable or a bit faster in multi-threaded than the competing model (FX-8120 vs i5-2500K mainly).

For most people I think the 2500K will offer more balance overall, being good in everything. The 8-cores should be good in encoding/rendering/content creation, etc.

Not that I'd complain, but kinda funny that the prizes are going to be rigs that just got put through the grinder on suicide runs :D

'no limit on cooling type'? Hahaha, the 'winners' might get some non-bootable slag. I could see someone cranking liquid nitrogen and 2v+ on the cpu!

A 2600k downclocked to 2500k speeds would be an interesting thing to compare the Zambezi to. On Intel's side you have 4 256-bit when on AVX, 128-bit otherwise FPUs putting out 8 threads. On AMD's side you have 4 Flexible 256-bit FPUs working with 8 Integer cores.

Will AMD be able to put out more non-AVX GFLOPS? If not, I'm gonna have to buy Intel.

I take exception to the OP. BD launch is NOT getting closer every day, rather it is retreating before us like an oasis of cpu in the desert. The closer we get, the faster the date changes. However, I must admit that I fully expect BD to be faster than a 2600k when it releaes...in 2017.

edit: hell hath no fury like that of a cpu fan scorned!

:D Funny... but sadly true :(

Love the quotes in your sig - sadly, I don't get out much anymore though, so I doubt that I have even been half as decidedly far as DixyCrat.

Looks like someone had the wrong type of mushrooms on their pizza. - must have been an interesting thread.

Shame on Intel. AMD was first at bringing 8 core to the desktop first.
Xeons dont count their server line.

Then whens the first dual socket mobo coming out. 2 bulldozers on mobo with 32gb ram imagine that,,, imagine that.. How much is this dozer gonna go for,, 600 ? or a consumer price.. thx

They're bringing eight cores to desktop first and with higher clock speeds because each core is significantly slower than Sandy Bridge's. They're not gonna give you twice the cores and higher clock speeds unless they absolutely have to. They need to keep the ASP as high as they can, hence why it's probable that like in the past you'll get a chip that's comparable or a bit faster than Intel's at the same price range (see X6 1090T vs i7-860 for quick comparison).
