Bull dog owners and dog lovers

My is kid is finally big enough to have a serious pet. I have done some research and the British bull dogs temprament and size fits the profile for our family. I'm the past I had German shepards but they require a lot of time and space which I do not have now.
We live a fairly spacious apartment for a dog that size. Sugguestions are greatly appreciated.

what does your kid want?

Don't just buy a pet because they are older, make sure they want one...a lot of kids today would rather have a new Xbox game or some cool shoes or a nice bike than a pet.

I really wanted an English Bulldog, but you should know then run upwards of $2000. They have to be born by cesarean section which drives the cost up.

I ended up getting this dog. Named her Zelda.

He has been asking for a dog for a couple of years now. He walks our neighbors dachshunds all the time. He is eight, by the way.

Look into Boston Terriers. They really cool little dogs and great with kids... they aren't too big either.

not all need a caesarian.

$2000 is sort of low for highend dogs though (I am not saying anyone should spend that much for any dog as a pet).

My mom is a Bulldog breeder - she actually is very well respected in the "bulldog world" - has sold several 10K bulldogs. I have 2. What can I tell ya - they are stupid, loveable, and ugly 😀

I've only found them for $2500, but thought I'd lower the price a bit to account for NYC inflation.

Not really - you have to trim their nails, clean their wrinkles often, and keep them cool - they are very intolerant of heat/humidity. But they are generally very mellow dogs - very unique personality.

I would say if you have to get a dog, get a small poodle. No offense to anybody, but I hate big dogs, and bulldogs.

No offense to anybody - but I hate small yappy dogs 🙂 Get a cat if you want something small 😀

Yeah, they start out kinda energetic but get lazier as they get older. (don't we all? lol)

They are super smart and can be trained to do all sorts of things. They have such great personalities. I had one that died last January and she was so freaking cool... I will definitely get another Boston someday. 😀

I have a Redbone Coonhound and I think he tops the laziness scale.....sometimes he doensn't get out of bed til 3PM in the afternoon! I am not joking. In fact when my stepdaugher was looking for a dog for her boyfriend lazy was high on the list and that is how she decided on a Redbone....but his parents wouldn't let him keep it so guess who ended up with him? Mine is HUGE though at around 110 lbs so definitely not an apartment dweller.
