Just built the system, it's complete silent. First boot success, installed through windows fine too.

Intel D875PBZ mobo
1GB Kingston hyerpx pc3200 ddr in dual channel mode
3GHZ 800FSB Original intel fan( zalman 7000A does NOT fit..so lame)
diamondmax plus 9 ata133 160GB hdd
fx5900 / audigy2

Questions

1) My bios detects the harddrive as 160 gb, then when window xp try to format/partition it, it only shows as 130 gb. What's going on?

2) My bios display at default:
Processor speed: 3GHZ
System Bus Speed: 800mhz
System memory speed: 333mhz <-- shouldnt this be 400 mhz since ia m running pc3200 ddr:/
Memory mode: Dual channel
Memory Channel A slot 0 : 512 MB (DDR400) <-- now i am REALLY confused, it detects the memory as ddr400 but sets the speed at 333mhz? what the hell
Memory Channel A slot 1 : not installed
Memory Channel B slot 0 : 512 MB (DDR400)
Memory Channel B slot 1 : not installed
and all that CAS stuff is 2.0 - 2 - 2 - 5, which is pretty good right?

So why the hell would my mobo default the ddr400 to 333mhz instead of 400mhz? Anyone with a d875pbz ever get this when you first boot up?

3) My cpu temp is around 41C during idle mode. Is that high for a 3ghz p4?

Thanks,

gaga

Temps are better than mine! by about 4 degrees.

You'll need to go into your bios and set the memory speed up to 200mhz, I would imagine. You said you got 1GB of ram... howcome only 1 stick of 512 is detected?

Nebor, it detected both sticks.

Okie I tried to set the memory speed from 333mhz to 400 mhz, and i got the blue screen, then changed from 2.0-2-2-5 to 2.0-3-3-5 and rebooted 5 times and no problem so far.

Also my hdd in win xp shows as 130 gb instead of 160 gb:/ I heard you need xp sp1 to get hdd higher than 130 gb? So basically i need sp1 to install win xp, but in order to get sp1 i need to install the old xp first which would fuq up the hdd size. I am stuck grrr

yea used that board recently. It flat out will not run 2-2-2 timings with the ram at 400. Mushkin noted this when they validated the board with their ram. If timings of 2-2-2 are detected it will slow the memory speed down by default. Apparently the brand of ram makes no difference either. Run 2-3-3 timings and all wil be good.

hey nesud, did it detect the memory speed as 333mhz by default? I am really really curious why it does that even though the mobo knows i am running ddr400:/

I assume you will divide the drive into more than 1 partition? First when you install XP, create only the boot partition, lets say 80gig. Then once Windows is installed, you will have the 80gig C: drive and 50 gig unpartitioned. Then install SP1. I think then, the 50 gig unpartitioned space will become80 gig. Your other alternative would be to get a copy of XP SP1.

Also, the 875 chipset is not very happy with low latency memory settings. This is the nature of the chipset and not the motherboard manufacturer. On my Asus board, I can do 2-3-2-6 and after that I have problems. Luckily, the settings don't make a huge difference and certainly nothing you would ever notice except running a benchmark.

I dont think i can just install sp1 after already formatted the hdd with the old xp as a 130 gb drive? Dont you need to format/partition it WITH xp sp1 instead of old xp? Anyone with a 130+ GB hdd can verify please?

egale, that's what i am afraid of. I dont have access to a copy of xp sp1 cd atm and dont want to do a complete reformat:(

I had to return the HyperX ram and get some that was on Intel's approved list. I had crash after crash with no pattern with the HyperX.

Better yet get a new motherboard, Intel doesnt like to be o/c'd. I also have the same hard drive question. I know harddrive manufactures rate their hard drive by 1000 kilobyte = 1 megabyte instead of 1024 kilobytes = 1 megabyte.
I have a WD 40GB that is 37.2GB
