Hey guys I put together my new PC last night.

When I hit the power button on the PC I get power to the CPU fan for less than 1 second. Subsequent attempts to power on will do nothing unless I flip the switch on the back of the power supply to the 1 and back to the 0.

After doing that I can get power to the cpu fan again for less than 1 sec. I have checked the connections and nothing seems loose.

Basically I'm wondering if my PC's behavior indicates what the most likely problem is or if I need to do a bunch of testing.

Check to make sure there's no metal about leading to a system short. You have the motherboard up on brass standoff stilts right?

Yeah I have brass standoffs everywhere there is holes in the mobo. Does the problem description sound like a short?

I agree that it sounds like a short somewhere. In addition to making sure that the motherboard is fully off the tray, make sure no other parts of the case are touching your components (apart from the IO shield of course).

If all looks good, you may want to turn to the power supply. Try a different outlet in a different location (not the outlet above or below the one you are currently plugged into). If you are using a power strip, try another one or temporarily go straight into the wall outlet to isolate the problem. If your PSU has a detachable power cord, try swapping it with a different power cord.

If that doesn't help, get hold of another PSU, and swap it out.

Yeah I plugged the 12v 4 plug cord in.

Thanks Woofmeister. I'll double check everything when I get home from work tonight and if that doesn't work I'll try my old PSU.

Thanks for the help guys. Antec had sent me a bad power supply. I tried a different one and everything works great.

QFT. I love their cases, but the PSU's in them blow chunks. Better off dropping the $50-60 for a decent PSU as well...

WTF is this with the hating on Antec PSUs?
I have an Antec NeoHE 550 powering my E6600 + 2GB RAM + X1900XT system, and its voltages are either at or above nominal, and have not budged a bit since I first put it in six months ago.

Yeah it was just the PSU. I switched it out and everything is fine. Hopefully Antec will let me send back just the psu and not the whole case.
