New system built right before Christmas:
Intel i5 - 6600K
Asus Z170 Pro Gaming board
G.Skill Ripjaws V Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4-3000 Memory
EVGA GeForce GTX 970 4GB SSC ACX 2.0+ Video Card
Cooler Master Hyper 212 EVO CPU Cooler
Corsair CX750M Power Supply
1x SSD, 3x HDD, 1x DVD-RW
Windows 7 Professional
Issue:
After building the system, I installed Win7 and immediately updated to Win10. After getting the system setup, I started having seemingly random freezing and it's a hard hang. I have to turn the power off via the power button on the case. This happened while surfing the web (Chrome & Firefox), streaming video, playing Fallout4, and even while copying files. Generally 1-3 times per day. I can basically make it happen if I stream video (YT and other sites 😉 ).
Steps taken:
I downgraded back to Win7, thinking it might be a Win10 problem. Freezing persists.
I ran memtest86+ overnight and had no errors.
I'm not overclocking and the system runs in normal temps (max around 36 C which is normal for this CPU).
I was running a 600W power supply, which is on the low side for this set up, so I upgraded to a 750W, but the crashing continues.
Updated BIOS and all drivers. Win7 is completely updated.
Event Viewer gives: Event ID 41, Task (63) - Which is windows was improperly shutdown.
Really not sure what else I can do. Maybe wipe the drive and reinstall the OS?
