built new computer, wont work, help

i finished putting everything together, turned it on, everything lit up and the fans started going, but nothing happend, didn't post or goto bios or even beep, tryed hiting restart or power but that didn't turn it off so i hard to switch it off by turning off the powersupply.

my dad thinks its a bad cpu and i don't have any clue.

Your PSU is almost certainly a POS.

Other than that, double-check your wiring, that things are installed securely, etc.

yeah try reseating memory and video. Also unhook everything but the CPU,memory and video. One last thing unplug the power and clear the CMOS or pull the BIOS battery out for about 30-60 secs.

That PSU is a Powmax I believe. Not great, but atleast it should work.

No post is probably a bad CPU or board.

Yeah, that PSU is definatly a Powmax, I would not trust any system with that, they are quite possibly the worst PSU's made. I hada 400w version that blew and took my $180 motherboard with it. As for not getting a post, have you tried with the bare minimums? 1 stick of ram, cpu/heatsink fan, Video card(do you have another video card you can try, the power requirements of the 6800 ultra are probably far too much for that PSU to handle..) Why somebody would spend gobs of money on a top of the line video card, then get an extremely generic power supply is beyond me..

tomorrow i'll unhook everything and try all that's been said, the case came with a 350 watt ps, and i have a old geforce i can stick in and see it works.

can anyone recommend a good power supply, one with lots of connecters for the 6800u to be happy with?

and if it still doesn't work how can you tell if it's the board or the cpu, or both?
