I am playing CS and when i run into crowds of people, my ping gets really hi. is that my computer not being able to handle the amount of data or is that my connection.

heres is some info

i have dsl

my computer has 512 of ram,

cpu is duron 1.6ghz.

video card is geforce 4 128mb mx4000?

thanks all

What res are you gaming at ?

Your vid card is a bottleneck so you will have to lighten up on the settings for gaming. If I were you I'd get at least a GF4 Ti4200 and at least a Athlon 1800+ or better if you want games like CS or higher to run smooth.

btw...your rig is underpowerd.

in all seriousness, a cpu and video card upgrade would probably fix this.

If you are curious about what your connection is doing try typing "net_graph 1" in the console.

I believe that will give you an idea of whether your connection may be the bottle neck. While DSL is more than enough bandwidth, you may have your rate set too low. If you are seeing lots of yellow when you run into high-traffic areas, try setting your rate higher.

Also net_graph 1 or 3 or both will show you your FPS (I don't remember, to be honest).

net_graph 0 to disable either of them when/if you get tired of looking at them.
