Well, I have no clue as to how to fix this problem. I bought a new motherboard/case and I am trying to use some of my old parts such as hard drive w/Win xp on it, vid card. The system boots fine, but it displays an error saying there was a problem with the OS boot, use up and down to select from the menu (safe mode, regular mode) and there is a timer that should boot the system automatically. I have no control of the keyboard at this point and after the timer goes to 0 the system just sits at this screen. I also tried to install Win 98 from the boot disk and once it gets to the setup screen, I have no control of the keyboard so can't go any further. Any help/advice would be great.

Thanks,
Stanley k

Yep, sure.

1. Can you use the keyboard to access the BIOS? If so, wiggle the cable where it connects to the motherboard. That works for me.

2. Try another keyboard if this doesn't work............

crisp82,

Yes i can access the bios with the keyboard, jiggling it didnt work :( and i tried a different keyboard with no luck. Any other ideas? And why wouldn't windows start at the OS start failure/safe mode selection screen after the countdown?

Thanks,
Stanleyk

If the keyboard works for the BIOS, there shouldn't be a reason it wouldn't be working....Did the install run ok? What is the error message??

XP is already installed on this drive, I was looking at another thread, maybe that's the problem? The error message says:
We apoligize.... Windows did not start successfully. It may have been caused by hardware or software changes..
Then it displays a menu with Safe mode, Safe mode networking, and Regular mode,
There is also a timer at the bottom screen that says windows will boot in XXX seconds, however, when this timer reaches 0, the system just sits at the screen, at this screen is when i have no control of the keyboard. Another note, I tried to boot from disk and re-install win98 but I can't make selections when the menu pops up because of the same keyboard problem. haha, this is driving me crazy.

Thanks again,
Stanleyk

Post this over in Operating Sysytems.

That error message is the standard one.
