built-in lan port on working

Hello Everyone,

I just joined a few days ago, so please be gentle. I recently purchased a used Dell Latitude C610. It has Windows 2000 Pro installed, but the product key on the bottom of the laptop was for Windows XP Pro. I found a site online that has Dell Reinstallation CD's, so I bought one. I used it to do a reinstall, now my network port doesn't work. It only shows up in the Device Manager when I use the "Show hidden devices" option on. The laptop only has a CD drive, no floppy. How do I get my lan port back, or am I hosed?

thanks in advance,
Jim

Sounds like you just need the Driver. Go to Support.dell.com -> Drivers and Downloads -> Choose your Laptop Model and download the driver for the Integrated Network card.

You'll need to do that on a different PC that has network access, then copy it onto a USB Drive, CD, or other Media to transfer it onto the laptop.

How do I know which Integrated Network Card is installed, or doesn't it matter? There are 14 items listed under the Network area.

type in your service tag and it should narrow it down. from there, just keep trying until you find one that works.

This laptop has built-in networking. It's not a network card. I would show you a screen shot, but I don't know how to attach it.

SOLVED!!!!!

Somehow the NIC got disabled in the CMOS.

You would still need a driver, built in or not, but it does have to be enabled 🙂
you just got lucky that windows had the driver and you didn't have to download it.
