OK, we needed a new server at work. So I had the honour to built that server:
Dual Xeon 2.4GHz
2 GB RAM
Raid-1 (80GB harddisks)

Unfortunately, I have to use Windows on that server. Gonna install it tomorrow. And no, we didn't get a Compaq or Dell. I know that if something blows up, I gonna be responsible for it but we have a good backup concept so yeah.

Make sure you back up that mother ALL THE TIME. If you lose one drive in the raid setup, you will have a problem. Also... I recommend redundant power supplies.

sweet 🙂

at work we recently got a 2u hp server, dual 2.8ghz xeons, one or two gb memory (forgot😛) 6 hotswap disks, two power supplies, and yesterday i installed the new backup station, ultrium something, 200gb per tape, pretty nice 🙂

Why will I have a problem? I might have a downtime, but the data won't be lost, right?

Yes, because your boss loves downtime. The folks at tech support love saying "I'm sorry, our server is down."

hehe

let me guess, they're ide drives AND you set them up in RAID-0?

hehe

ooooooooooooops, I meant Raid-1, my bad. 🙂 IDE Drives in Raid-1. The downtime won't be too much of a problem. I can change the harddisk during the night or late eve'.
