I just finished a muffler made of 3" PVC pipe (the heavyweight stuff), 3 " car exhaust tubing, and a resonator. I use an Alpha PAL 8045 (reverse flow) vented through the side of the case. The PVC pipe picks up on the side of my case, and goes about three inches into a 3 inch diameter input, resonator from my car! from there, it exits via a three inch mandrel bent mild steel exhaust pipe to the attic. With my 80mm, 84 CFM fan on high, it's as quiet as when I ran my 32 CFM non-ducted fan.
I'm thinking about remotely mounting the fan in the attic, so I can use an A/C powered 120mm 120 CFM unit, should be qieter still.
Oh yeah! The temps were 40.5 C. at full load, at 2.3 Ghz on my AIUHB XP-2100+, and the motherboard temp was 27 C., both lower than before, by 5, and 2 degrees respectively.
