Builing a PC...puzzled

I am in the process of building a second PC but I have ran into a problem. The PC I am building, I am using some of my "old" parts for it. The case is new, midtower case, ATX. P/S is a 300w generic which I have used for many months without a problem. The board is an ESC K7S5A, with latest bios, which I have also used for many months with this same power supply, so there shouldn't be any issues with the power supply and motherboard. The CPU is a Duron 950 with OEM HSF ( which I tested in another PC and it does work fine). Memory I tried DDR 2100 and PC133 and PC100 (all are supported) all which work fine in other PC's. The HD is a 20GB Maxtor which works fine in my other PC and the CD-ROM and floopy work fine in my other PC as well.

I put everything together and it boots up fine and I can configure the BIOS settings. I boot from my Windows XP cd and it starts loading. 2 minutes later it reboots.

I tried another CPU, same thing. I tried 3 different type of memeory another hard drive another CD-ROM drive....

The CPU temp are normal. The bios settings are correct as well. I tried taking the motherboard out of the case and same things happens...

Funny thing is I was running that P/S, MB and CPU previously in another case just fine.

I know the CPU and memory are ok, as I can use them in another PC and run all kinds of test and it is fine. So it looks like it has to be the MB or the PS...

Any ideas, before I light on fire 🙂

Ionizer86:
I am not using two kinds of RAM at the same time. I originally used DDR with this board, but it still reboots, so then I pulled out the DDR and tried PC133, which didn't work, I even tried PC100.

Sheriff:
The power supply is one with came with a Lian Li case I bought a few months ago. I used it for many months with this board in the Lian Li case. I kept the Lian Li case for my current rig but I pulled out the PS as to keep it with ESC board as they picky about power supplies. So the original P/S from the Lian Li case is a generic 300w, which has worked fine for months....

i'm taking a wild swing here.... but could it be grounding issues? Since you moved the board to a new case, maybe some stud is where it shouldn't be....

I tried with the MB out of the case and still it reboots. I tried a different PS, so now it has to be the MB that is not working properly. I think at this point I am just going to get a new MB...

Here is a good, free mem test utility:
Dr Memory

Although, if you have tried 3 different mem modules, it's probably not a mem problem. Have you reset the CMOS on the motherboard? Also, select the "Fail-safe" options in bios.

Sounds like you've tried a lot. How about the cables to the HD and CDROM? I once had once of those act up. Also, try putting the CDROM on a different IDE channel.

Suspect the motherboard. That guy can be finicky sometimes you spend more on it. Than you would have getting a better motherboard that may cost a little more at first.
