I don't know if anyone here has experience here with this stuff, but I want to build a video surveillance PC to watch and record(onto a HD) 4 or 5 cameras I will have outdoors around my hosue.
I searched online but everyplace is trying to sell you some $2000 system they made, and im sure i can do it cheaper with individual parts i find on my own and i can do all the wiring necessary.
Just not sure on what kinda hard drive space and speed would be needed for this. its not like high definition DV stuff so i dont think i needa drop the cash on 10k rpm drives, since there will be 5 or so recording at the same time maybe? i dont know. also what would i need to insert the video feeds to the computer, and a program to view them all at the same time?
i think i read about VIA making mobo's for this with decoder cards but i couldnt find anything.....
lemme know if you guys can help, or maybe direct me to a forum that would know better
