One of my VPs posed this question to me. I'm not a networking guru, but I have some networking knowledge. No, I don't work in IT.

Here's her situation. She has broadband in her house. Her mother lives in a different building on the same property, 150 - 200 feet distant, and approx. 25 feet downgrade. Clear line of site between the two buildings. She wants to share her connection with her mom.

I'm guessing: Her house - wireless bridge --> directional attennae, mom's house - same deal.

Anyone have any equipment recommendations that aren't priced like the GDP of a small Pacific nation? Any tips to share on this topic.

Help is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

You have to take into consideration the way you are going to set the Wireless inside each location as well.

As an example if you have only one Wireless Access Point at one location and you put on it a Directional Antenna the local
Wireless would be limited. Therefore, the final topology is depending on what each location would like in-house and the existing hardware.

Read this page too, Wireless Bridging - http://www.ezlan.net/bridging

If this were one of my VPs, I wouldn't go entry level.

Jack is right, of course. Your best bet is going to be to have separate radios, one directional for the bridge and another omni for local wireless traffic.

Always a fun project.
