This is going to be an inexpensive, yet quality system to do only
office work and internet browsing. Are there any comments about the parts and/or known incompatabilities.

Case: Alienwarestyle Miditower(the one with the door) 300W PS
Mobo: ECS K7s5 Sis 735 Board
CPU: Duron 750
HSF: Elan Vital Coolermaster (AMD approved)
RAM: 256MB SD-RAM Cas 2 Infinion (DDR is still more expensive over here)
Vid: Matrox G550 32MB
FDD: Nec
HDD: IBM 40gb IC35 7200/2MB Buffer/ 8,5 ms
Sound: onboard (will not be used for Music, only system sounds)
LAN: onboard
Keyboard: Logitech Cordless Itouch set with mouse
DVD-ROM: NEC 12X
ISDNCARD: AVM Fritzcard (best there is, and it is free since I don´t need it anymore)
Monitor: Samsung 950p (on sale for 230Bucks) or 750p (if 950 out of sale)

So, anyone care to make some comments?
I would appreciate it.

be on the safe side and get a maxtor

i know u might get the IBM and it might work great but it seems they still have a little highre failer rate than most others.....

i know ibm is the fastest but if u can go with something little slower and has better reputation for not failing get a maxtor (or new western digital)

just my opinion

Why the Matrox 550?

If you're going to be sticking to 2D, then it's fine - probably the best that'll be available in the non-professional region.

However, don't expect it to perform miracles in 3D-gaming.

Depends what you want to do really ... ;)

I agree on the Maxtor drive... and also, they aren't particularly slow, mine performs very well in fact!

And also, the new Quantum Fireball plus AS 7200 RPM drives are good and fast.. another consideration, but agreed, don't buy the IBM due to their problems of late..

I also ask the question why matrox? it is an excellent 2d card and OK for light gaming but even a GeForce2 MX-400 would spank it in 3d apps I'm sure.. so if you are going to be playing alot, don't buy that Matrox.

do you really need a cordless keyboard? Personally I don't really use them... so I guess I don't see the worth in paying extra for one... but you may see different. :)

EDIT: I didn't see that it came with a mouse... but it still may be cheaper to get a regular mouse and keyboard... I'm not sure what prices your are looking at.

First of all, thx for the replies.

Q&A: Funny enough, I had over 10 IBM drives in the past 4 years.
5 are from the infamous DTLA series. They ALL run great. Some 24/7.
I had a Diamondplus Maxtor that failed. And another Maxtor 3 years
ago that failed. I trust Maxtor to produce very good drives now, but
for me IBM has been more reliable. I do say that one new 40gig IBM
was DOA..... Maybe I will go for a WD, I have 2, one from 95 that is still running.

shatal: G550 because this PC won´t play game at all(the users are
no gamers) and nothing comes close to 2d quality of a Matrox. (And I write this on a good ATI Radeon...I will never go back to the shoddy
Nvidia blurr)

Keyboard and mouse were requested by the users.. I offered a normal keyboard and a wireless mouse to cut the costs in half, but
to no avail...

If you have any knowledge about problems that could arise with these components please post it. thx.

OS is going to be W2K Pro.
