Hi,

I have a case I bought a couple of years back. It has a 250W power supply by L&C Technology Inc. I am thinking about picking up a ECS K7S5A SIS735/ Duron 900 from partspc.com, but I am worried that the power supply won't be sufficient. Money is tight and I already have that case.... Below is the case I have and then the mobo/cpu combo I am looking at. Help.

Hmmm...I think it should be right on the edge of exceptablility....If you don't have a whole lot of peripherals (drives, etc) and the case power supply is amd approved I think it should be fine...

I would find out the brand and model of your power supply and see if it is on AMD's approved list.

If you are using a Duron and onboard video and sound I don't think power should be too much of a problem. It would be better to have a high quality 300 W + power supply, but you may be OK with yours. (I have a friend building a computer with a 250 W PS to power an Athlon XP 1500 and a GeForce 3 - we're not sure if it'll work yet, but...)

I would say it's worth a shot. If it didn't work, I think you could get another power supply for less than $40.

Sorry about the previous blank post.

If that case has been sitting around for a couple of years, chances are you won't find the PS listed on the AMD approved list. 250 watts itself is not bad, but AMD processors, at least Athlon, require a smooth supply of power. I think you basically have little choice but to try your combo out and see. If it doesn't boot up properly, you may have to shell out another 30 bucks for an AMD approved PS, it's simple to swap a new PS into a case.

BTW, one pf my comps is running a K7S5A with an Athlon 1.2 and a GeForce2 vid card on a 250 watt ps.
