A friend recently gave me a socket 754 amd 3400+ so I'd like to build a new rig off this proc. I have all the stuff for watercooling so I want to get board I will be able to overclock the most. These are the mobos I have narrowed it down to

Asus K8V SE Deluxe
Abit NF8
MSI K8TNeo-FIS2R
Gigabyte GA-K8NSNXP

Any recomendations

I'm obviously going to get the newest firmware for whatever board I choose so firmware issues dont matter as long as they are fixed with the newest firmware

If all you have is the CPU right now, why not eBay it (they're currently selling for around $150+) and get a Venice 939 chip and build from there? Almost assuredly more OC potential, and a more modern architecture to build from.

Thats what I intended to do however I think he wanted me to use it and not sell it as he couldve done that and also I'm not really looking to come out of this the best I can as this is just an interim computer til dual core cpus are more readily availible. I'm not ignoring your advice though, I'm tempted to do that. I think I'd rather keep the cpu though

That's cool. We don't want to offend the gift-giver. :D I don't have any experience with S754 CPU's, but from what I've read my advice would be to use an NForce3 250Gb or even the NForce4 socket 754 boards.

Since you're starting with just a CPU, how about this MSI K8N Neo3-F Socket 754 NVidia NForce4 with PCI-Express.

The customer review on Newegg's site is from a guy who got his 3200+ 754 up to 2.7GHz so I imagine it OC's pretty well. Plus, you can skip AGP altogether and get PCI-E, so when you do plan on a more "permanent" upgrade you won't have to buy another video card.
