Ok, here is how it all started...
Helping friend build a system... Ordered Iwill KA266 rev 1.3, 1 gig 266 retail tbird, EN-72370X3 case (comes with 300W good PS), radeon lt, 256meg crucial 2100 DDR. Hooked everything up, board, drives, cpu fan powered up, but no video/bios screen... I know all about the problems with the KA266 and seating the ram... I jammed that sucker in all the dimm slots... still nothing... Cleared bios, no help... Took board out of case (thinking grounding probs), unhooked cd, hdd, floppy...so only vid, ram, cpu...still nothing... Changed jumper to 100vs133 ..nothing.... Reseated ram again, nothing...Tried keyboard power up jumper (what does that do ?) nothing... The multiplier was set to auto...didn't bother changing it manually to 7.5 figured that wouldn't be the prob...Put mem vcore voltage up to max...nothing...Scanned forums here, Iwill... don't know what else to try...
So I decided to test some of the parts in my system, my s*itty board (pc sh^ts m805lmr) can take a c processor and I have a radeon as well... Tested the radeon..booted fine... Then I took out my 750 tbird and put in his 1 gig C... here's where we smoked mine I think... There are no jumpers to set for 100vs133 processors, so I cleared my bios, and booted it up.. I have a 300w ps (cheap) as well so I figured I'd at least get something... Board powered up, cpu fan kicked in...then about 4 or 5 seconds later, the fan sounded like the processor went under heavy load....and the fan stopped for about 0.5 sec...then started again, then stopped again... I pulled the plug at that point...
Then I put my 750 tbird in the Iwill.... same problems as before..no change whatsoever... Deduced bad board, am rma ing it back to newegg today... Am rmaing the 1.0 gig proc as well, as it should have booted in my system....
Back to mine, so I put my parts back in, tried to boot... Zippo, nada, no power to board, drives, nothing... Figured I smoked my PS... So I took his enermax 300, hooked it up to my board, and viola power !! BUT... bios kicks in, says AMD 750 256 megs ram ok....then it gets funky... It will auto detect the prim/sec drives, then screen clears, get a blinking underscore cursor in top left hand of screen...then the power resets !! It then starts to boot again, processor 750 ram ok...then reset... then reset...Resetting every 3-4 seconds... WTF ?!?! Sounds like heat to me, but my MB doesn't automatically shut down depending on proc temp... Tried clearing bios, reseating vid card... nothing....
If you guys have any info on either of my system probs, I'd really appreciate it... As well do you recommend RMA'ing the 1 GIG 266 and the IWILL ?? Will newegg give me the epox board as replacement ?? That's the one I originally wanted but they were sold out...
I feel like throwing em both out the window...
