Building new system right now, quick thermal compound question.

Hi, I am about to put my 2.60c p4 into my new IC7-G.

Basically, I assumed that the processor came with thermal compound, as the box read "includes intel thermal solution".

I am running the stock hs/fan and have no plans of overclocking until I get some new ram. There is some grey crap on the bottom on the HS, is this what they are talking about? Should i just spring for some real compound? Will it work as is?

If someone could get back to me promptly I would appreciate it, does anyone know if fry's or compusa carries artic silver?

Is the grey crap goop or a pad? If you're just going to run stock speeds then the stock hsf & compound should be fine. Fry's should carry thermal compound but I don't know about AS. I remember glancing at some silver compound there, not sure if it's specifically AS though.

more of a pad, went out and bought some compound anyways. it's not artic silver but i think it will get the job done.
