Ok I am building a new system with a P4-2.4C processor and after reading reviews both boards have major issues, or so it seems. Here are the 2 options that I can afford and considering, any advice would be appriciated.
option 1:
Asus P4P800 Retail -$116
CORSAIR 512MB PC3200 VALUE SELECT - $85.50

Option 2:
ABIT IS7,Intel 865PE Retail - $109
CORSAIR 512MB PC3200 VALUE SELECT - $85.50

what do you mean "major issues?"...or did you mean to say neither have major issues?

like Ichyi said, you can't go wrong w/ either board. it all boils down to specific features, and the boards differ very little when it comes to features as well. both are rock solid when it comes to stability, and bot h are great OCers.

Go with the IC7, both are solid mb's but the Asus does not include a USB bracket or Sata power connectors. Getting those separate adds another $25-$30 to the P4P800 putting it in the $130 + catagory. Get the IC7 and with the money you save over the Asus get better ram.

I'd say ASUS, if only for the reputation, as both are good boards. If you're not using SATA, the lack of connectors is no big deal. Most cases have front panel USB ports now, and those can be connected rather than a bracket. The Deluxe version of the ASUS mobo includes the SATA power connectors and SATA cables. I don't think it costs a LOT more, I paid $145. Also, everyone has their favorite mobo manufacturer, perhaps you've had experience with one or the other, and familiarity would help in the choice.

I believe, as you stated, that your question was regarding the RAM above. You've got a pretty good deal with that RAM, but you may want to grab something at a lower latency. 2.5 is not bad at all, but you could probably go with 2.0 CAS latency and see a little better performance. I am a big fan of the IS7 especially for its BIOS settings. Super easy to adjust and you can really tweak this thing. ASUS is real good too, but you will see on countless posts how their RMA service really sucks - so if you end up with a bad board - you're SOL. So, go with the ABIT, and don't worry too much about Gigabit LAN (IS7-G) 'cause you won't use it if you have a standard cable modem.

Oh, yeah that bracket in the IS7 is really helpful especially if you just want to have the extra firewire ports - I've connected the extra USB to the front of the case.

Good luck!
