Building new pc, need technical assistance

Hey folks, i havent upgraded my pic since my duron 600. I have an old abit kt7a raid mobo and a 300 watt power supply.

I know over the last few generations, power supply connectors and processor power requirements have changed some, but Im just not sure on the details.

If i build a new pc with an athlon 64, xp, or p4, will i need a new power supply? If so, why? connectors? power requirements?

Thanks in advance.

btw, i looked at other forums and none really seemed the "right" one to post too, so forgive me if this isnt the exact correct forum

There is a 4pin connector required along with the ATX connector on some motherboards for xp systems, and I believe it is required for P4 motherboards. So the answer is that you could probably use that power supply for an xp processor motherboard, but not p4. I'm not sure what the athlon 64 motherboards require.
All of the other connectors should be OK. You can get adaptors for a serial ATA hard drive if you choose to add one of those.
If you decide to get a new PSU, I would go with at least a decent name brand 350W power supply. Antec, Enermax or something like that.

All new PSU's have it but not only the P4's require it. Alot and I mean Alost of the newer Athlon boards have connectors for the extra power. Thoug some require it and others it is optional it is always a good idea as you will run more stabily.
