I'd love to get into steam games! Most recent game I played was medieval 2 total war but it didn't run well at all (that's about 5 years ago, so a little more recent).

Some indication of what kind of games you prefer would be helpful..

There are several Total war games since medieval 2 if you want to pick that back up.. I haven't played them myself though so maybe someone else can suggest which is the better one? I heard good things about Napoleon TW so got that on a sale last week and look forward to checking it out.

Other than that I predict people will yell out all the recent AAA games
Skyrim, BF3, Witcher, Portal 2, DX:HR.. Anything else?

I was in the same boat the beginning of this year. I now have a giant pile of games and no time to play them. All I'll say is wait for steam sales. They have daily ones that are at times quite good, and weekend ones that also have pretty good deals. With how many games you've missed it's hard to recommend too many new ones.

About a Month ago I reinstalled Medieval 2 Total War and downloaded the grand campaign mod and been playing it a lot. Its the modding community that makes playing the TW series fun.

If you like the idea of tank warfare there is World of Tanks. They call it a MMO but its more like a multiplayer system if you ask me. Good fun game. Free to play too although its a better experience if you have Premium service which is not free since you have to use gold to have it and gold costs money to buy.

Exactly. So many good cheap games for $5 - 15

You've come back to the pc gaming master race, so you need to remember that all games are better on PC.

generally I'd stick with RTS games and FPS games. FPS on a PC is still better than on a console.

Here are a few games that are on a PC that you can't get on console, or which play better on PC than console:

RTS: Warhammer II. Starcraft 2. Company of Heroes

FPS: Team Fortress 2, Battlefield Heroes

Civilization V.

MMO: Star Wars Knights of hte Old Republic MMO

UPcoming: Firefall. I am very much anticipating this game. It looks incredible. F2P also.

You HAVE been out of the PC gaming loop for 6-8 years. What you are describing is the exception to the rule. Most games are console first PC second. That said, the PC verison is typically better looking, more flexable (mods), and potentially horrible interface (afterthought).

You should check out Hard Reset. It's a PC exclusive FPS that's pretty fun. A demo is available on Steam.

okay. Then I will say that Mass Effect is probably about the same on console as it is on PC. Gears of War likely as well. GTA 4 likely better on the console.

it's not too hard, really. If the game has a release on both the 360 and ps3 it is likely not too great on the PC.
