k i wanna build myself a machine with an afterburner... ;-) Seriously i want to build a very fast top of the line machine, but i am not too much into hardware in terms of whats the best combination to get out there (MOBO+CPU+RAM+VID etc). I am not to concerned about my budget(lets say $3500 for those who need a number).

thanx for the suggestions!

Also are there any websites that post stuff about screaming fast machines other than www.SharkyExtreme.com (or maybe sharkyextreme is good enuf?)

What will this be used for? What kind of monitor are you looking for? A good flat panel can cost ~1000, so that would make a big difference as opposed to say a standard 19"crt.

Try Anandtech...they have buyer's guides for any type of system. My personal recommendation would be something like this:

- AMD Athlon FX-53 2.4GHZ Retail Processor
- Asus SK8V Deluxe Socket 940 Motherboard
- 1GB Corsair XMS Registered PC3200 DDR RAM
- ATi Radeon 9800XT Video Card

That should be about the fastest you'll find available today. If you are willing to wait a month you'll be able to buy the next generation of video cards, either the Geforce 6800 Ultra or ATi Radeon X800 Pro/XT. Both of those will be considerably faster than what is available now.
