Parts are in my sig.

Must I have a floppy drive? I thought I would be able to boot from the CD? Anyway around this?

Second, I cant get it to turn back on. I ihooked up everything and turned it on, just to see if it would run, it did, it asked or a boot disk so I just shut it down for now because i had to do something else. I come back and tried to turn it on again and nothing, the mobo light is on however, but the psu doesnt turn on completely etc etc. (Theres no way I shorted anything)

Third, I have two optical drives, I set the DVD to master, adn the CD to slave, the dvd is on the primary, cd on the secondary and I have them pluged into the primary ide cont. Is this right?

I will probably have more questions, regarding the wires coming from the front of the case that I hook up to the mobo for like PWR SW, HDD LED, etc etc.. but for now I jsut want to get it to load and install XP..

thanks in adavance!!!!!!!!!!!

it maybe that your bios is confused about the x2 if the shipping bios doesn't support dual cores. maybe try a hard cmos clear (removing battery and all) for like 30 mins to an hour.

do you know if the bios you have supports dual core? if it doesn't get the necessary bios on floppy or disc before you boot again.

LOL! it says on the box: AMD Dual Core CPU Support

So im assuming it does, however this is Asus im dealing with here, and there mobo manual is for sh!t!

I removed everything from the case and removed the cmos from the mobo, ill give it another shot in about 30 minutes. thanks~

Aslo... Can I use an external usb floppy drive and not an internal fdd cabled drive?

by jumping the power button pins you mean touch the tip of the screw driver to the two points where the cable would plug in? This wont cause damage?

shouldn't be an issue but i've never done that. just mkae sure you check the manual to see if you need to jump something for that. my p4p800vm needed a jumper enabled to enable usb as boot device i think.

i am thinking there is a chance they shipped with bios that supports x2 as its a new board, no? but of course, listing hardware support and actually having the bios in the box that supports it is two differnt things ;)
