Building new conroe gaming box, is e6600 strong enough ??

Hi Guys,

well its that time again, I'm going to retire my 3 gig agp machine and build something that can handle the new breed of games like vanguard etc that demand massive power. I was looking at the prices of the 6600 and 6700 and 200-300 more for the 6700, is it really worth it or will the 6600 and a really strong video card be enough for a couple of years for hi end gaming.

No. The 6600 is by far the best deal P/P of the 4MB chips.

You should easily be able to clock the 6600 to default X6800 speeds, saving $700 in the process.
 
highend gaming, the words alone describe it all. obviously it's faster than the Athlon FX-60. so the answer is yes.

but if you're serious about highend gaming, it's no competition that the Extreme CPU when it's OC'd will outpace the others at this point in time.

however if ur smart, you'll go with a midrange model to your liking and OC it. why, because it will save you money. why, because highend stuff will lose value anyway.

I thought the FX60 for me was a waste. a few months later, you get a chip for 250 bucks that can match it. I could get over 700 bucks of fast food, which would of lasted me a year as far as money goes.
 
Well, you can OC the E6400 easily above X6800 speed as well w/ the right RAM and chip. You can use the money saved from not buying the E6600 for better video card.
 
E6600 is pretty good for the price. But the best value might be the E6400.

You can't go wrong with either if overclocking.
 
Ok I'll go with the 6600, next questions are, I'm not going to be OC'ing so I'll prolly go with an Intel board for stability, which one and is it worth it to get the dual sli rig when the DX 10 cards are around the corner ?

That depends on what cards you're wanting to use. A C2D with 2 7900GTs shouldn't need any more than 400-450W, but be mindful to pick a good supply.
