Building new computer

Initially I was planning on getting a PIII 1ghz for my aging Dell for around $220, but then realized that I could get a new 1.2 TBird for around $105, an Iwill KK266 for around $105 plus a new Enlight 7237 w/ 300watt PS all for around the same price as the pentium. I'll be using my 13.6Gbyte HD, Radeon 32DDR, modem, Aureal SQ2500 sound card, and other drives from the current system.

Here's the questions. Since I'm going from a Dell Intel based solution to an AMD/VIA solution, is it possible to just plug in my current harddrive to the new system without having to format the drive? Also, I have 256Megs of PC100 Ram. I can get the Tbird at the 200FSB and be good to go with my current RAM, right? Or would it be worth it to just buy a stick of 256Meg PC133 ram so I could take advantage of the 266 FSB? Last question, is it worth it to get the retail processor, since I probably won't be doing any OC'ing for awhile?

Thanks for any help.

"is it possible to just plug in my current harddrive to the new system without having to format the drive" no you are changing chipsets most likley and it may pick up on it or mihgt not your best bet is to do a fresh install.

For your ram question just buy some crucial memory its cheap enough right so 🙂

retail proc's come with longer warranties so of course :-D
