Building New computer

I have a $450 budget for a mobo/cpu and I need to know what would be the BEST combo to get whether AMD or Intel. I do a lot of encoding, music conversions, and some gaming (now that I've heard of SLI).

This system thread might help.

SLI doesn't make much sense unless you're willing to spend $800+ on video cards and $600+ on the mobo/cpu.

To see what CPU you want, click the "CPU/chipsets" tab, for info on SLI the "Video" tab.

What video card do you have now, and how soon are you planning to upgrade?

I have a 6600 right now. I need Sli in the future cause I plan on buying another 6600 sometime next year, after I put my whole system together and buy all of the parts.

For mobo and cpu only, I'd go with a Athlon 3200 Winchester and an Epox EP-9NDA...which would still give you about $100 which you can spare. The athlon 3200 [can] OC to about a 4000+, which is like $400 more. Talk about bang for you buck!

I went thru this same exact thing for the last two weeks. ended up with a A8V + 3200 Winch + 1GB Corsair Value Ram, for 481 total.

datwater is selling a mobo here for 100$ new. I would have bought it had i known in time. that should bring you down to 450 total.

Zipzoomfly gave me the best deal at the time.

Good luck!
