Hello,
I have been out of the hardware "scene" for a while now and I want to build a new computer. I am looking to spend about $600-700 and would love some advice as to what hardware I should be looking at (CPU, mobo, Vid card, etc..)

Thank you!

Definately go with a cpu, mobo and vid card. You might also want to get hard drive.

Yep, you are gonna need those. You'll also need a hard drive, RAM, case, PSU, and OS.

Good luck!

Also, a computer case to hold your stuff will be a good idea.

Maybe I should clarify a bit, I know what is needed and how to build it.
I am looking for specific suggestions, IE, AMD Athlon 64 X2 4000, ABIT KN9 SLI etc..

You don't need a monitor anymore, btw. You might know that, I just don't know how long you've been out of the scene.

386SX with 1mb ram and VGA should do the trick...I'd go for a 40mb Harddisk and 1.44mb floppy, nothing like future proofing.

Hell yeah! You'll be top dog with 1mb or ram for quite a while; probably will not need to upgrade for at least two years.

Windows 3.1 should smoke on that system

dual fdds and a turbo button.
2 button mouse minimum
extra VESA slots never hurt.

Here's an illustrated tutorial, SEE ME

You'd need to take what good pointers you can from this, adapting to whatever uyou build.

Also, some community colleges give a class on how to build a PC.
