Right now I am like 2 seconds away from ording a new mobo from newegg.com, but I have to figure out a few things. This article (http://www.xbitlabs.com/news/story.html?id=1013639623) details some of the features of current and upcoming chipsets. I want to get a mobo that works well, but has many of the latest features so it can "grow" for a few years before new technology replaces it. So my question to you is this: Is an 8x agp slot really going to make that much of a difference? What about a faster V-Link? Are things like that really going to like make a difference in comming years, or will an Abit KR7A-Raid do just fine for about 2 years (with processor and memory upgrades)? Or do you think an Iwill xp333 would be better> What do you have and what would you reccommend?

Thanks hopefully I will order tonight and get it by thursday!

p.s. I got a car radiator and some really big fans to cool my cpu! I can't wait to get some stuff to set it up with, should keep it pretty cool

First off, you're fighting a loosing battle. The crap you put in that box will be second hand junk faster than you'd believe.

Second, I think it would be entirely reasonable to have the box work (and work well) for the next two years. Both the Abit and the Iwill should scale up nicely to faster processors and memory. It won't even remotely be "top of the line" in two years, and other computers will be pounding the crap out of yours in Unreal 4 or Quake 7 or whatever - but your will still be able to play it with some relativly trivial updates (IE: processor, video card, ram, etc.

Hope that helps. Personally, I'd go with the Abit.

Yep, that would be my idea on it too. Hehe If you keep waiting, you will have something old and doesn't work. Best thing is to have something right now that will work for several months and allow you to upgrade it a bit. I have been waiting and then something better comes out and I wait some more, but that gets you nowhere.

Try something not too costly, that way you will be able to add something later with the money you saved and still have something that is fast and reliable for the time. Don't get the best of anything unless money doesn't mean anything to you, cause all new cards or boards will be slower than the next best thing sooner or later.

I would say that an AMD XP 1800+ cpu should last you a good year or more and then all you have to worry about is vid card and whatever other cards you want to buy.

If you want to go Abit, don't get the raid version unless you plan on going full out raid cause it's just an extra cost. When you can't use that board anymore, you will be stuck with raid on hard drives without an easy way to transfer to a new raid array or machine. The Abit Kr7a does look like a nice board though.

Either of the boards you mentioned will be perfectly fine. AGP4X doesn't even seem to be stressed right now. I don't think 8x will yield significant improvements just yet. If you upgrade some things along the way your computer can have a long life.
