Building My Own Game Controller

I'm looking to build my own game controller (partially for fun). I need to have keys (much like keyboard keys) but I haven't been able to locate either a place to purchase them or any information on how to build them from existing keyboard keys.

It was suggested that I use an Opti-PAC for the interface.

Does anyone have any suggestions?
