Building my first SFF rig tomorrow! Anything I need to know?

It's not mine, unfortunately. Guy at work. He's never built a rig before...neophyte. I basically told him what to buy. I've never built a SFF system before. Is there anything special I need to know? I DO plan on RTFM before starting; I know those cases are all freaky and stuff.

Since I'd ask YOU, I'll post the parts! 😉

Shuttle SN85G4
Athlon 64 3200+
512mb stick Corsair PC3200LL
Sapphire 9600XT
WD 120GB SATA drive, 7200K rpm (he picked this out w/o my approval!...I'd have just gotten a regular IDE SE drive)
Plextor 708A

Gonna put W2K on it. How'd I do? 😀 Anything I need to know?

Yep, pretty much RTFM will work for you. Shuttle has a nice little pamphlet (w/ pictures) showing the exact build order, so you should be good to go with just that.

cutting out the back grill for the ice fan has been shown to lower temps, altho it voids the warranty. just an fyi. otherwise it's pretty straight forward.

Besides wanting one for yourself after building it, you will probably want to run the program Speedfan to control the noise of the fan noise but that is about it.

Thanks for the tip, guys. I was coming back to this thread to report that the dude never called me.

I was doing HIM the favor. :| Screw him now...ah...I work w/the guy.

I'll bet he tried to do it himself...I mean, it's not really all that difficult. I wonder if he got everything loaded up?

I have his number, but why should I call him, right?

And ERICBOO, I want one for myself anyway! 😀 Those things are waaaay cool.

I'm holding back from getting one though, b/c I just went and spent almost $400 on a SCSI setup for my gaming rig. 😱 I love it...but obviously, you can only have one HD in a SFF, and it's gotta be a good size; 18GB ain't gonna cut it. 😉

Thanks much for all the suggestions. If I DO wind up building (heheh, RE-building?) this thing, I'll be well-armed w/knowledge. 🙂

So he doesn't know about computers at all? Don't be surpised if he asks you why the video card wouldn't fit into the PCI slot. 😀

not if you lose the floppy. and about the only thing i think you might of needed was the drivers for the SATA on a floppy to ease the install.
good luck
