My friend has made a newfound discovery that she loves computer gaming, so she needs a new computer to do it. She also currently doesn't have tons of money to spend, so she asked me to look for parts for her, and to build the PC.
She will probably be travelling a little with the PC, so we decided that we should probably start with a SFF barebone. She's aiming for around $800, without the monitor. This is what we've picked out so far.
Shuttle SN25P Socket 939 Barebone
Sony Combo Optical Drive
Samsung 120GB HDD
1GB CORSAIR Value DDR
AMD Athlon 64 3000+
ASUS EN6600GT Video Card
Total on Newegg was about $850.
This will be my first time putting together a computer. This computer will be used mainly for gaming, so the best possible performance is a must for the price.
I just wanted to see if any of the pros here at the Anandtech forums had any advice on the part selection, and whether or not they are good choices for gaming.
I was also wondering if this would be everything I would need (if I only ordered the above parts) to put the computer together and boot up.
Thanks!
