Building my first gaming PC in almost 10 years; What games so I NEED to play?

Here is my build. It's already on the way, so not looking for input on that.

EDIT: I ended up paying $922 for the same build. The price there is just current prices on pcpartpicker.

I want to play the whole HL2 and all the episodes all the way through. I almost finished the campaign in HL2 on my last build (Athlon XP 1800+) but for some reason stopped.

I already play BF3 on xbox, but I think it may be worth it to play on the PC instead now that I will be able to.

I will OBVIOUSLY be playing D3 whenever it comes out! I think I'm going to stay away from WoW this time.

What other games have I missed out on that I should play, and what newer games?
Where can I get them used/cheap?

I'm normally more into multiplayer games than single player, and don't know what else to play in that arena. Maybe some SC2.

I'm really excited and looking forward to everyone's input, thanks!

I don't know. Your system seems to be underpowered to play many modern games....

First off, download Steam and create an account with them (which you have to do to get HL2 anyway). They have midweek deals, weekend deals, and very good seasonal deals. Right now they have Skyrim for 33% off which is a great game. I would skip Oblivion and jump right into skyrim. For other games you can wait for other deals, and since you've been out of the loop for 10 years there will be plenty of older games for cheap.

Anyway, that system is more than adequate for playing any current PC game.

If you liked HL2, you should definitely pick up Portal 1 & 2. They're first person puzzle/physics games made by the same guys.

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is the game everyone seems to be playing right now, with good reason. It's a fantastic open world RPG. Plus it's on sale on Steam this week till Thursday. $50 for Morrowmind, Oblivion, and Skyrim.

Defense grid
Doom 3
Far Cry
FEAR
Gothic 3
Grid
Mass Effect 1&2
Metro 2033
STALKER
Singularity

Mirror's Edge, Just Cause 2 and The Elder Scrolls: Skyrim.

Best games I've played in a very long time IMO.

PC gaming is dead. The only thing PC's are good for now is porn, stalking people, and internet trolling. I suppose those could both be games tho...hmm...

Crysis is still the best looking game. Metro 2033 also looks nice. Shogun 2 can be taxing on a system.

This.

Just get steam, make a wishlist, then wait for their weekly / holiday sales, and pick up whatever on your list and on sale then.

Make sure to pick up TF2 for free as well :D

Guess you've already played ME/ME2?

If you're a multiplayer guy there's League of Legends, but if you're avoiding WoW this may cause some of the same problems. Same thing with TOR.

Deux Ex: Human Revolution is fantastic so far. Best game I've played since ME/ME2, and IMHO as good as the original.

Dragon Age, and Metro2033 has a HalfLifey feel to it imo, though I couldn't really get into it.

Knights of the Old Republic.
Deux Ex: Human revolution
Defense grid
Dreamfalls (not as good as the longest journey)
Mass effect

Good Co-Op: Trine 1/2 and Titan's quest

Thanks for all the replies, people. These should keep me busy for a while.

Probably no JC2 because I've played it a lot on xbox and don't want to start over.

Will be getting the HL2, portal 1/2, etc. games.

We'll see on Skyrim...

LoL sounds fun, we'll see, though.

What about Hard Reset? I want some input on that game.

And Red Orchestra?

Dude, you have alot of sweet gaming ahead of you.

You will enjoy HL2 Episode 1 & 2 very much.

Grab all 3 of the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. games and install them all with the complete mod, which is a painless install.

Then just enjoy the games, you wont be disappointed.

Happy Gaming and Congrats.

Make sure you get the HL2 hi-res texture mod, if it's still relevant (haven't played in a long time).
