How does this look so far? Any flaws or suggestions? Also, I just need to clarify:
An AMD Athlon 64 3000+ is the same speed as a Pentium 4 3.0 ghz?

NIce...Dude you are going to piss people off making them have to click each link to see it...Just type what it is next to the price....

I wouldn't OC with the Asus if you plan on doing that..The DFI is a better board IMO...and in most reviews I have seen....

Damn I wish I would have waited on my burner and got one of the light scribe models...I only paid like 60 bucks for my NEC 3500 but that would have been a nice tech...

Can you link me to the DFI board?

I'd ask why get an expensive SLI motherboard, but then only one 6600GT? SLI is for using two gfx cards simultaneously.

I'd get a mobo without SLI (save money) and get a better gfx card if you play FPS games.

Also, can't tell what kind of PSU comes with that case. Not likely to be a very good one though. I prefer to buy my cases and PSU's seperately, getting a good quality PSU like Fortron or enermax etc.

OverClocking is simply about making a hardware component faster than it's specs. For example, my mobile XP CPU is rated at 2600+ speeds. I run mine faster than a 3200+ cpu. So, you can take a cheaper piece of harware and by adjusting the voltages and/or timings etc, make it operate exactly like a more expensive part.

Overclocking is a way to make your CPU (CPU primarily, but other parts, such as RAM, Video Card, etc. can also be overclocked) go faster (2.0 Ghz to 2.4 Ghz for example) by increasing voltages. Some motherboards can overclock parts better than others. Drop the SLI mobo, as you'll NEVER need SLI. The DFI Lanparty and MSI Neo4 Platinum are great boards. That 6600 GT is fine for now, and you can always upgrade to a better card when next gen chips come out, which should be just around the corner. Don't get Lightscribe, as you probably won't need it. Good DVD burners can be had for about $50. That case looks pretty crappy, and so is the PSU that comes with it. Go with a nice, strong, brand-name PSU that has at least 24A on its +12V rail, or dual +12V rails. I'm too lazy to list out all the good brands, so search around the forums, or wait for someone else to answer. Everything else looks pretty good though.

Cool, thanks guys. Any more suggestions are appreciated.

Actually, I was thinking about getting the SLI board just because I might want to get another 6600GT down the road and run them side by side. But if you don't think I should, I'll just go for a cheaper motherboard.

But can someone tell me what
AMD Athlon 3200+ translates to in Pentium 4 speed? I'm pretty sure it means 3.2 ghz, but for Athlon, 3200 would mean somewhere around 2.6 ghz (I think). Does 2.6 ghz in Athlon equal 3.2 ghz in Pentium?

I forgot, a 2.6 a64 is as good or better than any p4 on the market. I believe the 3200+ is running at 2.2ghz.

3200+ sckt 939 venice and Winchester are 2.0ghz...newcastle sckt 754's are 2.2ghz

AMD pr rating can get confusing spanning 2 sockets, 2 dies shrinks, 4 cores, single channel versus dual channel, 512kb versus 1mb of L2, etc....Anybody can get lost in there....

may i ask what you guys think of the PSU/case? I would like to upgrade mine and am looking at Sonata, but wouldnt mind a flashier case with a "better" psu...
what do you guys think?

The reason they say you won't need SLI is that while theoretically you can pop in say two $200 video cards and get higher performance, in some cases nearly equal to a $400 video card, it's not an across the board jump and the game has to specifically support it. You're better off just getting the $400 video card now or get a $200 video card and then somewhere down the line get the next generation of video cards when they're out.

I'd probaby go with the Antec Sonata which is a very nice case with a 380watt PSU. It's a little more expensive running in at $100-120 but it's a lot better. Cheaper cases use cheap PSU's that have high ratings but can't perform at load for long periods at those ratings. Tests have been done on cheap 400-450watt PSU's and found them unstable with lots of power spikes once you load them with about 200-250watts of power consumption. This can in the long haul damage your computer parts.

As other's said, you don't need a $100 DVD burner. You can get the NEC 3520A DVD burner for roughly $50 and it will perform just as well. The lightscribe feature is gimicky and will require DVD's or CD's that specifically handle support that feature in order to be used. It also kills the longevity of your burner when using it.

An AMD Athlon64 3200+ should be roughly equal to a P4 running at 3.2ghz. You're correct in assuming the performance rating is roughly equal to the mhz rating of a P4 since that's what they base it on. Do keep in mind that it is not always accurate.
