building my 1st PC tomorrow

Building my 1st machine tomorrow afternoon, I am a bit scared about installing the cpu (775 Q9650). I will be using an arctic freezer 7/pro for the cooler. Is it ok to handle the sides of the cpu or should I wear gloves (sorry the intel instructions are a bit vague) and should I worry about the plastic push pins? Any good tips or links out there for me?

If you do not have one of those anti-static wrist bracelet, remember to constantly ground yourself touch bare metals on your case before handling any equipment. Its very easy to build up static shock working around carpet floor.

Thanks guys, I assume the freezer's fan should be blowing toward the back of the case correct?

Most cases are set up for cool air to enter the front, go across components, then exhaust out the back of the case. So yea, I would mount it so the warm air goes to the back of the case.

I am quite jaded when it comes to building PCs, yet I did have a quasi-nervous moment when I picked up a 955BE recently. I was so used to Land Grid Array chips, so I totally forgot how to deal with CPUs with pins.. It made me quite nervous when switching heatsinks. :laugh: It was a very strange yet nostalgic experience. I have no idea how I dealt with so many Opterons and didn't bend a single pin.

With LGA775's, the scariest part will first come with the pressing down socket lever. I do remember when I first installed an LGA775 CPU I thought I was going to break something. Do not worry - as long as the CPU is completely seated inside the socket, you can push the lever all the way down and it will not break anything.

Finished my PC today, had some trouble with the stupid pins on the cooler but it appears to be tight. I was surprised that everything just worked thank you for the assistance guys.

Best way to tell is by the temps.

I was trying to figure that out, I assumed the ASUS board had some kind of monitor on it but I cannot find it, is there some kind of app I can download to test?

Just figured it out I DL's real temp 3.0, shows the Q9650 is running at 41/35/37/34. How does that sound?
