Building issue - Something doesn't look right

Alright, got the motherboard of my system in and the power supply, rearranged the first 2 fans to be in the front (3 more are going in later).

The problem is this : After putting on the IO cover that came with the MB, it doesn't look right at all. Is it supposed to look like this or do I have something on wrong?

Thanks in advance!

Either your mainboard standoffs are a hair too short, or the baseplate of the case is bent outwards. Try to get the sound jacks to center better in their plate holes, else you might have trouble elsewhere too - e.g. when trying to make AGP, PCIE or PCI cards sit down in their slots properly.

So it is supposed to have those little metal tines visable? I know they act as static grounding for the ports, but I didn't think they would be so obviously in view.

As to the actual cover, I guess I am spoiled by the colorful Dell I/O covers ;). The simple shiney silver is growing on me though. Hopefully I'll get the processor and heatsink in tonight.

:) The case came completley without instructions, so I was winging it a little with the MB tray, perhaps I don't have it completely inplace again. I'll check that when I get home again, thanks!

Looks fine to me to be honest.
Edit: Oh, and excellent camera (or I could be stupid, judging from 1 screenshot)! Could you tell me what brand/model it is by any chance?

The camera is really nice, the best I have ever used actually.

It is a Sony DSC-V3 7.2M pixel. I got it for $500 at newegg a couple months ago. It also records up to 11 minutes of continuous movie footage at 640x480. I am still getting used to it, but the automatic "let the cam pick my settings' mode has been really forgiving on my lack of photography skills.

EDIT: The 11 minutes comes from a 1 GB Memorystick Pro card. Dif size cards give dif lengths of course... :) (Also, it is at 30 fps)

Haha. I just got some flack from someone I sent the big pile of parts picture to. They mentioned that with BF2 at the top left it looks like the whole rig is just to play one game.

Well, until I get more, it is to just to play one game I guess. Lol.

I didn't think the grounding tines would be that obviously in sight. But no-one is really saying that they are in a bad position, so perhaps I just haven't looked that closely at them before I started trying to build a system myself. :)

Well, everyone has two livers right? ;)

Wait, what do you mean one liver and two kidneys? Uh oh...

EDIT:

But seriously, it was pricey, (~$3400, almost entirely at newegg), but I came into a little cash and haven't upgraded anything for 5 years (so I had equity with the wife to spend it on a new system). :)

Hmm, maybe just nerves then.

I have to admit, when I finally got the case apart and sat down to start building, I was a bit paniced at the amount of work to do for it.

Image Shack photo of all of the stuff I have to somehow fit inside the case...

Sweet! That's what my living room looked like when I built my rig a couple months ago.
BTW - What are the Melitta coffee filters for? Is that a quick & easy air filter mod?

I was recommended to the coffee filters as a source of disposable lint free whipes for dealing with the heatsink installation. They worked really well. MechBgon's guide has been fantastic, BTW! :) Especially since my heatsink (the retail box version that comes with the X2 4800+) didn't match the picture that came with the instructions (also from inside the retail box! Why!!!).

Looking at your photo carefully, it appears (and I could be wrong) that the bottom edge of your I/O shield did not get fully popped into place. The top edge is correct, the little dot-like nubs are outboard of the case's opening.

Glad you liked the guide  You should send me your 4800+ and heatsink so I can get photos of it.*
