Building Gaming PC (Suggestions Wanted)

Hey, AnandTech Community; i'm new to the forums and i'm in need for advice/suggestions on the gaming PC i'm planning to build. (I'm a novice)

I'll be using the computer for hardcore gaming, watching movies, and a bit of Adobe series apps (After Effects/PhotoShop) I currently play at 1680x1050 res (1980x1050 res is future plans) and i have a tendency to max out graphics. With the new gaming rig i'll be overclocking, but i won't be using any parts from this computer to build it.

I plan to build the PC probably i'll say around the beginning to late summer. My budget is $2000-2800. Just to add it, i'm on the "Green Team" so i prefer nVidia graphic cards. I'm switching over to intel, So their processors are what i'm interested in.

I already started to make a list of parts that i ended up liking, after some research. So here are specs:

Case:NZXT Phantom (Black)
CPU:Intel Core i7-2600K Sandy Bridge 3.4GHz (3.8GHz Turbo Boost) 4 x 256KB L2 Cache 8MB L3 Cache LGA 1155
Mobo:ASUS MAXIMUS IV EXTREME LGA 1155 Intel P67 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 Extended ATX Intel Motherboard
RAM:G.SKILL Ripjaws X Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800)
GPU:GeForce GTX 580
PSU:CORSAIR Professional Series AX1200 1200W
Primary HDD.Intel X25-M 120GB SATA II MLC Internal (SSD)
DATA HDDs:2x Seagate - Barracuda 1TB 32 Cache 3.0GBs Internal Serial ATA Hard Drive Raid 0

The list is still incomplete, but i'm open for the suggestions and feedback.

P.S. I'm from USA

Your mother board is overkill get this one instead.

This cpu combo. the i7-2600k is not really worth it.

GPU is fine

PSU is WAYYYY too big get this one.

SSD isnt a very good one. This one is much better.

For your data drives go with these instead.

Case is a waste in my opinion but that is really up to taste. And pick up W7 if you dont have a copy.

Even being new, I can tell you what the VETS here will say...

...with that much time until your build, it's way to earlier to start looking at what you may or may not put in the rig. 4-6 months (depending on when you think Summer starts) is a LONG way out in computer time.

Very true, but it is good to get a look of the current way the market is before you build too so you aren't caught off guard 😉

Yea, thats basically what i'm doing. I'm just looking at what build i would be leaning towards, so i'll know what kind of parts i'm looking for when its time to order them.

Well with your budget you could go with a decent gaming rig AND manage to fit a 30" IPS monitor if you wanted 🙄

Out of curiosity, would that PSU be able to hanble SLI with GTX 580?

Yes looking at potential builds and reading reviews always helps in getting the best bang for the buck.

Ahh, that looks nice. thanks for the help, also any recommendations for a optical drive and cooling fans. Plus, about those bare HDs, would any cable for it work or only certain ones?

Here's a Samsung DVD Burner.

You shouldn't need any fans beyond what comes with the case, and the mobo that mnewsham recommended looks like it comes with 4 SATA cables, so you should be good there (they are standardized).

I would choose a case & PSU first, then as summer comes closer, start buying the rest.. like Optical, RAM, Monitor, KB&M, Heatsink & fan, and then finally the heart of your system cpu, mb, gpu..

EDIT: btw, if you are serious about gaming, get a 120Hz LCD and a 500Hz or > polling rated mouse.
