Building gaming pc and first time project

Hi I am new to the boards and have been referred here by someone else, well Ive always wanted to build a good pc ,and now that I got a job this can become a reality, My plan is to buy the parts I need piece by piece until the system is ready and have chosen to buy the case first(also should I start with the case or should i start with something else?) so what kind of case should I buy? Ill answer all questions and thanks for your help in advance

ok, for excellent cooling and good looking, this is a very popular case:

if your looking for a quite yet very good at cooling, look no futher than this beauty:

This is a case, your buddies will be jealous of besides any othe ones I already suggested. This is 1st class construction, lite, great layout, great looking and provides good cooling all at a good price.

and finally, this case is all about value. Good looking, Great cooling options and usually under 70.00. If you seach around you could find this one with better shipping. This shipping is a little high.

Welcome to the forums and congrats on the job.
Case first is ok if you have an idea of what you plan to do and what "look" your after.
A gaming PC can be in a tower, mid tower, ATX, MATX, lanboy, I would suggest is to look around Newegg and see what you like. Also if this is your first build you'll want to cool wwith air but will you want the option for water later? If at all possible look around in your local stores so you might be able to get a hands on look.

thanks man Im gonna look into those, also I know its no the right section but what should I look into for motherboards?

also to above yeah Im gonna build a gaming pc, yeah I will probably want to get into water cooling later on after I learn the ropes on this stuff but that will probably when I get into overclocking and such but Im probably gonna wait till the one Im building right now is gonna get a little older but thanks for info and support you guys are really helpful, it seems like im going to post here more often now 🙂

Welcome, madbutcher 88!

I just build a PC with a Cooler Master 690 and I am loving it (about a week ago). In fact here are all the parts that I used, as it was a great build:

GPU: MSI NX8800GT 512 MB OC GeForce 8800 GT
Mobo: GIGABYTE GA-EP35-DS3L
CPU: Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600
TV Tuner: Hauppauge WinTV-HVR 1800 MCE Kit
RAM: G.SKILL 4GB (2 x 2GB) DDR2 1000
HDD: Western Digital Caviar SE16
Case: COOLER MASTER 690
Thermal Paste: Arctic Cooling MX-2
HSF: OCZ OCZTVEND2
Dual DVD Drives: SAMSUNG SATA Combo
OS: Microsoft Windows Vista 64-Bit Ultimate - OEM
120mm Fans: Scythe SY1225SL12M (4)
PSU: Cooler Master RS-650

Everything works fine. You also don't need the extra case fans unless you are planning to overclock. I left the video card alone, but overclocked the CPU to 3.4 GHZ stable. Get the Vendetta 2 and video card even if you don't plan to overclock, because they are quiet as hell. Love the machine. Here is the link to forum post I made about it: http://forums.anandtech.com/me...AR_FORUMVIEWTMP=Linear

Best of all it cost me $1,313.54 with shipping at Newegg, w/o tax. If you don't need the fans you save $59.65. I you don't need the tv tuner you save $104.98.

Overall it is a great deal and I am very satisfied. Tell me your e-mail address if you want a nice Excel sheet that I had created.

BTW get something smaller than a full tower. I recommend a mid tower or ATX. A full tower will store an elephant, don't get it unless you are getting 5 HDDS, a GX2, you get the picture. A micro ATX is okay, just forget about upgrading things or adding much to the build later on. A lanboy is meant for somewhat portability. Most of all read lots of reviews. Expert reviews are good, such as those here, but make focus on the average joe and you'll quickly learn all the positives and negatives of a product, as well as what type of application/person the product is targeted for.

Also, here is a great article on applying thermal paste, what I think is the hardest part of a PC build: http://benchmarkreviews.com/in...1&limit=1&limitstart=0

You would probably be best served by a post in General Hardware, where people are willing to comment on all aspects of a build. It will also save you the trouble of making individual posts in the Cases forum, Motherboards forum, CPUs, etc.
