Building first system and all is not going well...

Ok so I got all the parts to build my first computer this morning (Christmas :) ) and I am attempting to assemble it.

I've already installed the cpu, heatsink/fan, memory, video card and plugged in the front panel controls. When I go to start it up, the cpu fan, video card fan and the two case fans all start turning. The fan and led in the power supply both start up. But the monitor, keyboard and mouse do nothing. No lights no error messages no beeps from the internal case speaker...no nothing.

Does anyone have any idea where I can start to try to find my problem? I have a Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3L/S3L paired with a C2D E6750 and 2 gigs of Corsair memory. The power supply and case are by Rosewill. The video card is an ATI Radeon HD3850.

Thanks in advance for any and all help I receive :)

I also need some help, i got a new mobo, memory, ps, vid card, processor, same hard drive though right.....anyway it wont boot up. It probably has to do with everything changing and crap, so will i just have to reformat or is their any other way to make it work? Thanks in advance also.

I tried booting ubuntu 6.10 but the screen was all messed up, probably doesn't support the radeon 3850, yea i got that beast, thing is huge, its gonna kick butt.

Assemble the motherboard, CPU, CPU cooler, video card, power supply, and one stick of RAM outside of the case (on the motherboard box or other similar static free surface) and see if it will boot that way. If so, then you either had something connected wrong inside the case or one of the case standoff screws is in the wrong place and is causing a short circuit.

If you don't have the Video, you won't know if your keyboard/mouse is working.

Start with only 1 RAM stick, then try the other stick. I suspect the memory is the problem.

But make sure that your monitor is connected properly, and the DVI/VGA source is selected properly for the monitor.

Good luck!

EDIT: Your BIOS might not be recognizing the CPU - check the BIOS version on the BIOS chip, and verify with Gigabyte for the revision # supporting the E6750.

And try (if you can) a Video Card with the PCIe 1.1 bus.

bighedstev, also confirm that your ATX12V cable :camera: is connected. The receptacle is at the top-rear corner of the motherboard. Note that this cable is the one with two yellow wires and two black wires, and isn't interchangeable with the 4-pin segment of the 24-pin main power cable.

That sounds like the problem. From what i've read on the web, alot of people have an extra standoff and it ends up short circuiting the mobo. Try removing it and see if that solves the problem. If not, your mobo is toast. RMA it and don't say what you did. lol.

I did the exact same thing. Had an extra standoff once and the computer booted up for like 3 seconds and then it turned itself off. I removed the extra standoff then when i turned the computer back on the monitor wouldn't come on and no beeps, but all the fans would run as usual. I put another mobo in and everything worked fine. It happens and it's the best way to learn our mistakes.

I found a way with mine, i just went to repair that partition/hard drive off the xp boot cd. It took awhile but all is now well pretty much, weird i dont have service pack 2 and directx and stuff but all my programs and everything are still on here. It pretty much installed a fresh copy over the old xp installation.

You guys hit the nail on the head - I forgot to connect the four pin power near the cpu. Once I did that, it posted and everything was looking up. Until...

I installed XP and got error messages saying the following files were missing from the disc:

ks.sys
modem.sys
ndisuio.sys
sp2.cab
spconw.chm
ntkrpamp.exe

The only option I could choose was to skip the files. Once I skipped these files, XP finished installing and everything seemed fine. However, when I put the motherboard driver disk in nothing happened. I went to double click on the DVD drive but it wasn't there. So now I'm stuck trying to figure out how to get the drivers on the cd that came with the dvd drive onto my computer without the use of the dvd drive itself. I tried plugging a USB thumbdrive in but it isn't recognized probably due to the chipset drivers not being installed. I also tried a USB wireless nic to download the drivers but that too was not recognized.

So now I'm stuck...I don't know what to do. I'm thinking of going to buy a different copy of Windows and hope that solves the trick...unless you guys have a better idea (fingers crossed hoping someone does :) )

Oh and the drive shows up in BIOS just like it should and FYI - the DVD drive is a SATA drive made by Lite On. It's this drive:

Could be a filter driver issue - remove all filter drivers relating to the CD/DVD player (see my .sig and the website's CD-DVD section) and try again.
