Hello all,

I want to get a good setup for cooling, and get it right the first time. my components are as follows:

Lian Li full tower case, (6077 - nice case!!)
Gigabyte 915P Mobo LGA 775
P4 3.0 HT 800MHz FSB
1 Gig Corsair DDR2 Dual Channel
Antec True power PS 430 watt
Dual 36.7 G Raptors, to be RAID 0
ATI X800XT PCI Express (bought oem, missing d@mn 6 pin pwr cable)
Bought a huge copper heat sink for CPU, not connected yet (no fan)

Anyway I want to know how to set up my fans, what kind of fans to get (fixed speed, or auto variable for case, same for cpu?) and a fan controller/temp reader. I have plenty of space for 5.25 displays/controllers, just confused on how to set it up. I probably wont be O/C yet, but possibly in the future, however this mobo is limited (10%?). Should I get a conversion to put a large fan in front? Already has one for the HDDs.

This is the CPU sink i have which i need a fan for, and also best way to connect (mobo, or fan controller?)
Tt Heat Sink

Thank you for your help.

have you bought the raptors yet? if you havent DO NOT buy them. getting one 74gb raptor will give you same capacity, more speed than the two small ones in raid-0 and will cost you less money.

damn it.. yea. I have them. I can sell on ebay I guess. paid 100 each. So is RAID no longer beneficial given the speed of current HDs?

theres a test on this site about two faster 740s in raid 0 vs a single 740. shows that the raid-0 performance benefits for a non server are negligible. given that the 740 beats the 360 pretty good i very much assume that one 740 is faster than two 360 on a single user system. the 740 is also only 150 bucks and has twice the capacity. you always have the option to get a second 740 later run a raid-0 that will definitely beat the 2 360s at anything (single user sytem and server).

its just a better drive and the price/gb is less too. id say selling them or sending them back to the shop and getting a 740 is the smartest thing you can do. as i said youll save money, gain performance, waste one bay less, save power, wont lose capacity and keep the option to upgrade two a 2 740 raid cluster cheaper in future if you feel the need to do so.

im getting a single 740 with my new comp as soon as the asus sli board is available :)

ill put windows on it and get slower 7200 rpm sata drives to store stuff thats less performance critical than the operating system. prolly two 300gb maxtors in raid-0 for movies mp3s and stuff like that. the raid 0 just to have one big virtual drive not hopping for improving the speed.

With that kind of power you might want to seriously consider water cooling. With some good planning you could squeeze it all into the 6077. If you did go the H2O route, you might want to consider adding (or enlarging) to the fan opening on the top for the radiator with either a dual 80mm rad or one 120mm rad. If no H2O, have all the fans connected to a controller so you can adjust them to your needs. That mammoth contraption for your CPU looks HEAVY! You might need to add additional support (please don't rely on the mobo to hold that!). If your concerned about noise, sacrafice the bling of LED fans for some quiet ones. Good luck. Let us know how it goes.

Thanks. My case will be solid black, dont want any lights. can you reccomend a fan controller and a temp display? Yea that heat sink weighs a pound at least..

Try svc or frozencpu or performance-pcs for a fan controller and a temp display. There are so many it would be hard to recommend one. The Thermaltake Hardcano 13 looks cool.
