1.I still need a recommendation on a psu, I will be overclocking everything. I would like to spend $50-$70

2. Are all of these components compatible?

3. Do DFI boards work with Crucial Memory?

4. I am purchasing a antistatic wristband from the local radioshack, can you explain in detail how i should have the wristband connected to what and such so that i am at no risk of ESD.

Edit: Oh, and if it matters, i will be using this for gaming (Source games mostly) and generaul usage things. And budget is $1000, can go a little over if necessary.
 
IMO don't bother with the wrist strap. I have worked in computer for years and never had a ESD incident. Just touch the case before doing anything

2. Dont pay for windows. Bill gates stole it so why should you have to pay for stolen property? (bold by AnandTech Moderator - See below)

3. Thermal grease isnt really needed unless you overclock

4. Remove the wireless adapter unless you absolutely dont feel like buying a Cat 5e or Cat 6 cable

5. Nice case choice, glad to see your not buying one of those ugly ass LIAN LI monsterositys

6. DFIs do work with crucial memory so dont worry. However DFIs do have problems with some dual channel configs. if you have problems PM me and ill walk you through it

7. 500 to 600 watts should be fine for a PSU. I would suggest Thermaltake. Mine is perfectly quiet and i have never had a problem. I would also recommend a modular one so you have less cabling problems

8. You probably wont need a wristband(i built my PC in my livingroom on my coffee table and i have carpet too) Just make sure you touch the side of the case before you touch anything every time you go to touch something. Or if you really want the wrist band.. attach it to the case, that should be good enough

9. Good choice for a GPU, just make sure you upgrade it soon. The 7600 is good for saving money but as an actual card it sucks old mans anus and should be burnt.

10. Good luck man.

Edit: by number 2 i meant use linux supergamer -1.. or ask your dad to get you a copy of windows XP Corperate edition from work.

Edit number 2: I just noticed you said you will be using the PC for source gaming. Just so you know, the source engine is optimized for ATI cards. I would suggest going with a X1800 XL or a X1600 XT in that case. Plenty of power for what you will be running and as far as source goes, they will probably beat the 7600

Your ordering that in one go? Your gonna have one huge PACKAGE!!
Get around 450-500w power supply, seasonic/thermaltake/OCZ or any good quality PSU will do.

At most he would be looking 150 watts DC. A good 300+ watt PSU will be fine.

Yes I was going towards the 400 watt side of things...but I am pretty conservative. I usually start at the 400watt PSU's just because they tend to be able to be used through upgrades.
 
80gb hd is on the small side and the price per gig is pretty high compared to larger drives. If you have any inkling that you may fill it up, I would buy a larger drive.

It would drive me nuts if I had only 1 optical drive. I back up all of my discs, and I hate disc swapping.

80 gigs will be fine for a while, and if i fill it up i have an excuse for a raid 0 array 🙂

I think i will stick with the 7600 gt becaus ei have heard reports that the x1800 and x1900 are very LOUD, and the case will be right next to me so i want quietness as well.

So does the case need to be touching anything else to ground me? Or no?

And yes i need the wireless adapter, im across the house and up a flight of stairs from the router.

As for psu, would one of those 450w fortrons do? For $50 they look nice
 
The 'AX' Forton's are ok but they have to use cheaper parts to get to that $50 price point. Primarily they use cheaper capacitors and lack any kind of PFC.

I recommended the 330 watt Seasonic S12 in your other post and I think that's a much better choice. You'll get much better build quality, clean power (ripple, voltage regulation), APFC, very high efficiency, and near silent operation.

I would also change the motherboard to something else. The Asus M2N-SLI looks good if you need SLI, otherwise the non-SLI version can be had for less.

If you are set on the 7600GT I would opt for a passively cooled card. There is no fan to fail and it produces 0 noise. I just got this Gigabyte in yesterday that I will be using for a (re)build next week.
 
I think you'll fill that 80GB HD up pretty fast. I would opt for either a larger HD or purchase a second, which makes more sense. That way you have your OS and apps and games on one and all of your backups and media on the second.

I like the Asus M2N too. Solid choice.
 
Right now im weighing the higher watts vers better parts in the psu department. How much legroom would i have with that seasonic?

The Asus M2N-SLI would definately push me overboard budgetwise, and the M2N-E is a horrible overclocker and has a max of 1.95vdimm.

I doubt I will fill the hard drive up very fast, i just dont have very many big files. Ive been using a 30 gig for the past 4 years and still have around 5 gigs left.
